Job Description

The Aquatics Coordinator oversees aquatics staff, programming, and operations in conjunction with the Aquatics Director. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Additionally, the Coordinator maintains a supportive and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals.

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of experience in Aquatics programming.  

Prior experience in a supervisory role.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. 

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and computer skills.

Essential Functions
  • Supervises program activities to ensure the needs of the community are met and fulfill YMCA objectives. 
  • Works with Aquatics Director in establishing new program activities, and expanding current programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.  
  • Assists with overseeing the supervision and training of aquatics staff and volunteers.
  • Assists in hiring process of staff including interviewing, reference checks, training orientation, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Works in conjunction with Aquatics Director to schedule staff within work shifts created based on the facility’s needs.
  • Develops and plans training goals and objectives for mandatory staff in-service meetings.
  • Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Registers staff for classes to obtain required certifications that may be expiring in the near future.  
  • Develops and implements strategies to motivate staff and achieve department and Y goals.
  • Assists in staff development, culture, and engagement.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Oversees day-to-day operations of Aquatics programming including swim lessons, and facility rentals. 
  • Provides coverage for swimming lessons or lifeguard shifts as needed. Helps give lifeguard breaks, ensures proper coverage of pool, and provides “on-call” support as needed. 
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information; YMCA fundraising activities; and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner. Fosters an inclusive environment appreciative of differences in the workplace.

Required Certifications

Certifications: Certified lifeguard including CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid. Higher levels of certification are accepted.
