Job Description

The Spurlino Family YMCA, located in southern Hillsborough County, is the newest branch of the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA. Opened in 2019, it features a 2-pool aquatics center with a waterslide, an airnasium, camp pavilion, an outdoor nature trail, and 52,000 square feet of air-conditioned space for wellness, Stay and Play, and programming. This includes a brand-new indoor gymnasium added in January 2025. The Senior Program Director will join a seasoned team of experienced leaders, focusing on the delivery of Camp, Stay-and-Play, Family Programming, and the Arts. Serving the Gibsonton, Riverview, and Apollo Beach communities, the Spurlino Family YMCA boasts a vibrant and diverse membership, fostering a lively atmosphere filled with activity and community engagement from open to close, with significant potential for growth.

Qualifications

Education/ Experience Required: 

  • BA/BS in Youth Development, Recreation, Health Sciences, Physical Education or related field or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of one to three years of experience in camp, sports, or similar youth related programs with supervisory and payroll management experience required.
  • Experience serving on leadership team of a Y (or similar) membership organization serving over 2,000 membership households preferred.
  • Proven results in increasing program quality and growth through exceptional planning and organizational skills.
  • Highly motivated with the consistent ability to meet or exceed goals, cultivate and retain program participants.
  • Ability to quickly build rapport and develop effective relationships with program prospects and others to achieve goals.
  • Consistently self-driven and goal-oriented with the ability to set effective team and individual goals and take ownership for results.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and adapt to changing contexts and priorities.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making.
  • Ability to understand, adapt to and interact with diverse people, teams, perspectives and cultures.
  • Proficient in using email, Internet, and other PC-based applications with the ability to learn and adapt to new technology.
Essential Functions

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Senior Program Director will provide direct leadership and oversight to programs including Family Programming, Camp, Stay-and-Play, & the Arts.  The Senior Director will also support general Y programs and value-add programming within the center while consistently anticipating and exceeding member expectations.  The director will be responsible for creating and implementing an integrated program strategy to support membership while delivering services as outlined by the association to include organization-wide standards and consistencies throughout all programs.  The Senior Program Director will provide supervision to multiple department staff teams driving superior program quality, ensuring all programs support membership, increasing program enrollments, and enhancing the member/participant experience. This position ensures that their teams operate efficiently and employs a continuous improvement model to meet and/or exceed goals for member/participant satisfaction, financial management and overall growth.

Critical areas of expertise include: leading others and working in teams, highly organized multi-program management, delivering and managing robust programs focusing on quality, proven results in growth in programs, successfully overseeing part-time and entry-level teams and interviewing, hiring and onboarding associates, managing program quality, development and implementation of curriculum programming, staff leadership, proven results in growth in programs, successfully overseeing part-time and entry-level staff teams and interviewing, hiring and onboarding staff members.
