Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Fitness and Healthy Living, the Group Exercise Coordinator is responsible for the hiring, scheduling, training, and supervision of Group Exercise Instructors in the Fitness Department. The Coordinator assists the Director in evaluating the quality of the Group Exercise classes and addresses member needs accordingly. Along with the Director, they monitor expenses within the Group Ex budget and are responsible for the bi-weekly payroll. The Coordinator helps drive monthly wellness challenges and is responsible for the maintenance and inventory of Group Exercise equipment and program supplies.

Qualifications
  • Must hold a current group exercise certification from one of the following groups: American Council on Exercise (ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA), Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of practical experience in health and wellness preferred.
  • Enjoy, be skilled at and understand the importance of building relationships with people: members, staff, volunteers, donors, and community leaders.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Proficient in windows-based programs i.e. Word, Excel and Publisher.
  • Able to receive and maintain CPR, first aid, AED certifications.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Oversee the training, selection, supervision and evaluation of Group Exercise Instructors, fostering an environment of professionalism and excellence.
  • Train Group Ex Instructors on the Group Ex Pro platform.
  • Host and facilitate Group Exercise certification courses to grow and recruit staff.
  • Assist in the growth, development and expansion of all Group Exercise programming. Work with the Director to develop and introduce new and innovative programming.
  • Supervise Instructors to ensure classes are safe, fun and motivational.
  • Create, update and maintain accurate Group Exercise instructor schedules via the GroupEx Pro platform.
  • Teach Group Ex classes and/or Personal Training and serve as a substitute during scheduled hours as needed, not to exceed 10 hours per week.
  • Track and report usage statistics for all Group Exercise classes to inform program changes and improvements.
  • Coordinate with the Director and Associate Directors of Health & Wellness to promote the Y Wellness 24/7 platform on the branch phone app.
  • Monitor and record Instructor certifications & expiration dates.
  • Monitor class equipment regularly for preventative maintenance and ensure class supplies are in stock and available.
  • Log and report any equipment maintenance concerns to the appropriate tech provider for repair as well as Director of Fitness and Healthy Living. Follow up to ensure the task completion.
  • Attend all staff meetings.
  • Coordinate ordering of class supplies with Director of Fitness & Healthy Living.
Required Certifications
