Job Description

Under the guidance of the VP of Aquatics, the Swim Lessons Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, managing, coordinating, and conducting swimming lessons. This role also includes training Swim Instructors. The Swim Lessons Coordinator will support swim instructors in delivering engaging and safe swimming lessons, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.

Qualifications

·         Strong swimming background with appropriate certifications (e.g., Lifeguard, Swim Instructor).

·         Experience in managing, teaching, or coaching swim programs, ideally in a recreational or educational setting.

·         Excellent leadership, communication, and customer service skills.

·         Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.

·         Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.

·         Knowledge of water safety, child development, and instructional techniques.

·         Proficiency with scheduling and management software

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. 

·         Previous supervisory experience is preferred. 

·         First Aid/CPR certification is required (or must be obtained upon hire).

Essential Functions

·         Develop, implement, and evaluate swim lesson programs tailored for various age groups and skill levels.

·         Build and maintain strong relationships with instructors, students, and parents to foster a positive and inclusive environment.

·         Address any concerns or complaints from participants or parents promptly and professionally.

·         Share program information, schedules, and referrals as necessary to support student and parent needs.

·         Ensure accurate record-keeping, including attendance, progress reports, and other relevant documentation.

·         Staff supervision including but not limited to: 

o    Hire, train, and manage swim instructors.

o    Provide ongoing training and feedback to instructors to ensure high-quality lessons.

o    Maintain appropriate staff-to-student ratios during lessons for safety and optimal learning.

o    Ensure all staff are certified in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding as required.

o    Manage the swim lesson program budget, including expenses for supplies, equipment, and staff hours.

o    Order and maintain inventory of necessary supplies (e.g., swim toys, equipment, and teaching materials).Manage the swim lesson program budget, including supplies, equipment, and staff hours.

·         Promote swim lesson programs to the community through various channels (e.g., flyers, social media, word of mouth).

·         Organize special events, swim competitions, or demonstrations to attract new participants and increase enrollment.

·         Track and report progress on swim lesson goals and participant outcomes.

·         Provide feedback and updates to YMCA leadership on program performance and any issues that arise. 

·         Perform any other duties as assigned.
