Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Director of Operations, this position has primary responsibility for executing programs and services of the aquatics department. Duties include planning, promoting and administering programs of swim safety and education, and continuous program improvement. 

Qualifications

·        RI Non-Surf Lifeguard, Waterfront, Swim Instructor, First Aid, CPR, AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen certifications.

·        3-5 years Aquatics experience 

·        Experience in supervising and leading others 

Essential Functions

1.  Maintain and account for all equipment in program areas and ensure proper use of all YMCA equipment and facilities.

2.  Take appropriate corrective action with pool contaminations and reporting to the Aquatics Director and/or Executive Director the nature of contamination.

3.  Develop and deliver program quality management and development of swim lesson while keeping active YMCA certifications.

4.  Provide a safe swim environment for all members while keeping all lifeguard certifications up to date.

5.  Provide lifeguard coverage at branch and Camp Watchaug when scheduled and when needed.

6.  Ensure all patrons are safe in pool/waterfront.

7.  Maintain current CPR, AED, Emergency Oxygen, First Aid, Lifeguard, RI Waterfront Lifeguard and Swim Instructor certifications.

8.  Develop and maintain relationships with YMCA members.

9.  Responsible for all pool safety procedures.  Will assist with rehearsing safety drills during orientation week and every session to ensure their efficiency.

11.  Keep accurate records on all swimmers that participate in water safety programs.

12.  Responsible for the physical set-up and preparation of the Waterfront area as well as the pool decks.

13.  Will assist with special events and activities when necessary.

14.  Follow all lifeguard protocols as determined by the YMCA and supervisor.

15.  Communicate with each student and their parent/guardian at each class.  Communication is important.

16.  Follow all swim instruction protocols as determined by the YMCA and supervisor.

17.  Schedule swim instructors at branch and Camp Watchaug including training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing and approving timesheets; appraising performance; and disciplining employees; monitoring and updating all required staff certifications; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

18.  Recruits, hires, and supervises swim instructors and branch and lifeguards and swim instructors at Camp Watchaug.

19. Oversee the head swim team coach and provide administrative support for the team.

20.  Other duties as assigned.
