Job Description

Under the direction of the Facility Supervisor and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA,  the Facility Technician is responsible for maintaining the YMCA’s physical plant and grounds and provides maintenance and mechanical assistance for equipment and systems.  This position performs both semi-skilled and skilled work for the general maintenance and repair of YMCA buildings. This position will be on-call for facility emergencies.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 0-2 Years experience in property maintenance of a high-use commercial building preferably with pool / grounds responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to perform a variety of general maintenance activities such as minor plumbing and electrical repairs, painting and basic carpentry, and basic locksmith responsibilities
  • Knowledge of effective safety/risk management standards.
  • Basic mechanical ability to diagnose and implement basic repairs of facility equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to relate to members, volunteers and YMCA staff.
  • Basic ability to use a variety of software systems such at MS Outlook, MS Excel, and purchasing software.
  • Basic ability to read and understand budget documents and guidelines.
  • Shows willingness to take on additional responsibilities. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to work irregular work hours, including nights and weekends on occasion.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
Essential Functions

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Perform a variety of facility maintenance tasks to ensure a high-quality experience for members of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
  • Perform on-going inspection of the building and grounds to continuously upgrade the facility and ensure the safety of members and staff
  • Respond to assigned maintenance work order requests and maintenance emergencies, diagnosing and repairing building equipment as necessary.
  • Complete needed mechanical and maintenance of systems and equipment.
  • Coordinate with departments for any repairs or maintenance that cannot be done during regular working days and manage own schedule accordingly.
  • Coordinate site appointments for any contract labor to ensure quality services are performed.
  • Provide related risk and safety information for the branch staff and assist with conducting regular safety drills.
  • Facilitate branch Risk Management Program as relates to building life safety systems to include best maintenance practices around inspection fire alarm systems, and sprinkler systems, emergency exits, fire extinguishers and posted evacuation plan according to fire code and manage MSDS and HazCom site requirements.
  • Maintain all YMCA tools and equipment in clean, safe and working condition.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
