Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Senior Vice President of Brand Strategy is responsible for the development and execution of the marketing and external communication strategies and tactics to advance the YMCA’s mission and vision.  This position will apply experience, creativity, and leadership to develop and achieve strategic marketing and communication goals.  Develops integrated marketing strategies and provides oversight for tactical activities that will enable the YMCA to grow market share in its programs and services as well as enhance brand awareness and experience.  Leverages data and other useful information to create and foster a two-way, more immediate, personalized customer and community-centric approach and experience.

Hiring Range $120,000 - $130,000

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, journalism or a related field from an accredited college or university.  Master’s degree in a related area is helpful. 
  • Five years of proven progressively responsible experience in marketing and communication including solid experience in digital marketing strategies, public relations, customer and donor relations. 
  • Five years of senior leadership experience providing strategic direction and supervising seasoned professionals. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain favorable relationships with leaders of corporations and/or other community organizations.
  • Proven ability to exercise good judgment, demonstrate initiative and to make decisions. 
  • Proven experience in utilizing data combined with insightful judgment to innovate and create new paradigms.  
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, public speaking, negotiation, and presentation skills including successful experience serving as organization’s spokesperson.
  • Ability to relate and work well in a diverse and inclusive environment.   Demonstrated success in bringing together an entire organization and working seamlessly across organizational silos. 
  • Experience with Search Engine Optimization/Search Engine Marketing (SEO/SEM) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM).
  • Experience with online marketing tools and practices
  • Familiar with web design (Drupal preferred)
  • Strong analytical and project management skills
  • Advanced PC and technology skills, with demonstrated competencies in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or other related technology.
  • Must have reliable transportation.  Travel around the Greater Kansas City area is required. 

AFTER HIRE REQUIREMENTS:

  • YMCA of Greater Kansas City new associate training courses within 30 days.
  • Performance Excellence Planning completed within 90 days.
  • Working towards obtaining YUSA Leadership Certification.  
  •  Must maintain a current motor vehicle license and acceptable driving record that meets YMCA standards.
Essential Functions
  • Develops and maintains the YMCA’s brand awareness and reputation, ensuring consistent application in all marketing and communication tactics.
  • Partners with the senior leadership to develop and direct association-wide external communications, marketing, and public relations strategies.
  • Develops annual operating goals, objectives, and plans for the marketing and communications department. Execute and monitor to ensure the achievement of plans.
  • Exhibits strong fiscal stewardship through developing, monitoring, and forecasting budgets.
  • Identifies new opportunities through research of products, services, and current strategies.
  • Develops systems and manages resources needed to execute strategies and achieve goals.
  • Identifies, develops, and maintains effective third-party relationships and contracts, including creative and audio/visual services that support organizational goals.
  • Manages advertising, promotions, and market research related to customer demographics.
  • Develops and implements external communication and marketing policies and procedures for the association.
  • Creates engaging storytelling concepts for philanthropic growth.
  • Creates and ensures the facilitation of external communication plans to engage members, participants, and the community, fostering a two-way, personalized, customer-centric approach.
  • Partners with People Services to align and support internal communication strategies and tactics.
  • Leads the organization's digital marketing, online presence, and social media strategy.
  • Builds strong community, membership, and program relationships through social media interactions.
  • Develops public relations strategies and provide direction on managing media relationships to position the YMCA as a community collaborator and a cause-driven organization.
  • Serves as the organization's spokesperson as needed.
  • Develops and facilitates internal and external crisis communications planning, management, training, and response.
  • Monitors marketing, membership, program, and financial development performance metrics to better reach targeted audiences.
  • Supports leadership development by providing training, coaching, and development opportunities to build competencies in marketing and communications.
  • Educates, motivates, and provides feedback on best practices in marketing and communications.
  • Builds and maintains a high-performance culture through effective performance management, communication, and coaching of associates.
  • Supervises the Marketing and Communications team, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, and performance management.
  • Aligns the team to support key association-wide events such as Ribbon Cuttings, Challenge Your Fashion, and Spirit of Service.
  • Serves on other committees and councils as assigned.
