Qualifications

What You Bring to the Community Enterprise 

  • 21 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Have the ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Having experience in custodial or maintenance work settings is a plus but not required. 
  • You are organized, able to prioritize tasks, and handle multiple assignments.

Essential Functions

How You Will Make an Impact (Essential Functions)

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the janitorial staff, including scheduling, assigning tasks, and providing guidance and support to ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of YMCA facilities. 
  • Train new janitorial staff members on cleaning procedures, safety protocols, and YMCA policies and procedures to ensure they are equipped to perform their duties effectively. 
  • Establish and maintain cleaning standards and procedures for all areas of YMCA facilities, including fitness centers, locker rooms, classrooms, and common areas, to ensure cleanliness and sanitation. 
  • Maintain the center’s cleanliness and safety with a sense of urgency and prioritization (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning, etc.). 
  • Manage inventory of cleaning supplies, equipment, and materials, including ordering supplies, tracking usage, and ensuring adequate stock levels to support janitorial operations. 
  • Coordinate with Facility Tech for major repairs or vendor specific needs.  
  • Provide excellent customer service to YMCA members, visitors, and staff by addressing cleaning-related inquiries, concerns, and requests in a timely and professional manner. 
  • Communicate maintenance needs, and issues, and recommend solutions to center directors. 
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance checks of the facilities for preventative maintenance. 
  • Ensure the fulfillment of goods in designated areas, such as paper towels, soap, sanitizer, etc. 
  • Empty and clean wastebaskets throughout the center. 
  • Arrange equipment in the custodial storage areas in a neat and orderly manner. 
  • Work closely with the Y Safety Champion to develop intense cleaning and disinfecting protocol in closed-off areas.
  • Know and follow the Greater Austin YMCA's People Guidelines, Code of Ethics, payroll procedures (including completing timesheets), and established emergency procedures.
  • Attend all required meetings and/or trainings. 
  • Support Center and Association goals and directions through effective completion of tasks and verbal display to peers, staff, members and guests. 
  • Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community.
  • Lead by example the Y’s mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests. 
  • Become an Ambassador of the Y’s work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand. 
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
