The YMCA of Greater Nashua is a well-respected association and a leader in the region.  The city of Nashua, New Hampshire is situated 45 minutes from Boston and everything a major US city has to offer, less than an hour to the beautiful public beaches dotting the New Hampshire coastline and an hour to the White Mountains which offer many options for the outdoor enthusiast.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  Under the direction of the Executive Director of Member Experience, the Director of Belonging intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture focused on mental wellbeing and community engagement through achievement, relationships and belonging.

The YMCA of Greater Nashua has a dedicated Well Being Center at the Nashua YMCA Branch.  This position will innovate and implement the programs and services of the Well Being Center to achieve strategic objectives and meet the Greater Nashua community needs.

SCHEDULE:

Must be available to work at least 2 evenings per week in addition to daytime hours.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s Degree required in psychology, social work, public health or related field.

·         Certification in Health or Life Coaching preferred.

·         Experience in mental health programming and community outreach.

·         Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups.

·         Proficiency in data collection, analysis and reporting.

·         Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

·         Ability to develop positive and authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds and with a variety of medical conditions.

·         Ability to show empathy and understanding. 

Essential Functions

·         Champion the work of the YMCA’s Well Being Collaborative.  Support the delivery and implementation among YMCA Program Directors to drive achievement, relationship and belonging through Y experiences.  Track data and outcomes.

·         Create and facilitate engaging opportunities for members to come together for social opportunities, with a focus on target populations with high risk of loneliness or isolation. 

·         Facilitate workshops, support groups, and seminars focused on the well-being of target audiences with relevant topics.

·         Deliver 1:1 or small group coaching services to the YMCA of Greater Nashua community.

·         Become certified in the Mood Lifters program.  Develop and implement the program to members and/or community partners.

·         Partner with the Director of Healthy Living to support Evidence-Based Health Initiatives (EBHI) programs, incorporating mental wellness components where appropriate.

·         Lead mental wellbeing initiatives for the YMCA of Greater Nashua. Partner with area agencies and professionals to develop and deliver a strategic content calendar focused on mental well-being throughout the year.

·         Be alert, aware and ready to respond to medical situations as they arise i.e. falls, overexertion, mobility issues, etc.

·         Personalize relationships with participants through Listen First skills, genuine conversation and engagement.

·         When the opportunity arises, introduce participants to other members or to fellow staff to accentuate their health seeker journey.

·         Educate yourself on other Y programs so you are able to guide participants and make suggestions of other opportunities they may benefit from. If questions arise to which you do not know the answer, make sure you are able to point them in the right direction for assistance.

·         Respond to all inquiries and complaints in a timely and courteous manner.

·         Engage with participants in a way that they feel welcomed and connected to the Y.

·         Keep accurate class attendance records and collect necessary data as outlined per the curriculum.
