Assistant Director of Gymnastics

Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides leadership, instruction and motivation for students in gymnastics classes. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 18 years old.
  • 5+ years gymnastics instruction experience.
  • Current CPR PRO & First Aid certifications.
  • Child abuse prevention training annually.
Essential Functions
  • 25-30 hours a week in the gymnastics gym which includes direct instruction, supervision of programs, organizing and cleaning of the facility as needed, etc.
  • Mentors and leads Gymnastics Instructors. Assists with onboarding and training of new staff members.
  • Assists with running staff meetings, trainings, and continuing to improve staff education.
  • Supports Gymnastics Director with administrative duties, as assigned.
  • Assists with the preparation and upkeep of program curriculum and lesson plans, as well as communication of that to all instructors and gymnastics staff. 
  • Ability to instruct, correct, and spot skills up to/and including the team levels.
  • Ability to coach any age group from age 2, to adult. 
  • Conveys information on gymnastics programs and schedules and as appropriate. 
  • Assesses participants, and refers students and parents to appropriate programs.
  • Maintains records as required (i.e. rosters, attendance, etc.).
  • Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants, as well as proactively communicating areas of concern.
  • Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.  Conducts and keeps records of monthly gym equipment inspections.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Enforces and leads all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, completes related reports as required.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members and program participants; helps them connect with each other and the Y. Identifies potential volunteers. Trains and supervises class volunteers as assigned.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the YMCA and our three areas of focus: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  • Is able to support and coach the gymnastics team when needed. Possible travel with gymnastics team when needed.
  • Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Ability to articulate and model the Y’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • Wear required and approved uniform items at all time.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
