Job Description

Under the direction of the Sr. Program Director, the Youth Program Director is responsible and accountable for youth sports programs, Outreach Program and additional activities outlined below.  

Qualifications
  • Qualified candidate will possess a four-year college degree or within one semester of completion in a relevant area of study
  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Programming experience with children and teens
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Able to effectively handle conflict situations with children and adults
  • Excellent problem solving skills and shows superior judgment
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR; lifeguarding if possible
  • Certification on High and Low ropes course facilitation
  • Able to work independently and professionally
  • Working towards becoming an Authorized YMCA Driver
  • Must be able to swim (unless otherwise approved by the Outdoor Center Director/Sr. Program Director)
Essential Functions
  • Provide direct leadership for all Youth Sports Programs:
    • Planning, program promotion, and evaluation of all sports programs
    • Hiring, training and supervision of staff and volunteers
    • Development of new programs and enhancement of current programs
    • Lead Youth Sports program for the YMCA Learning Center over the winter months
    • Lead/staff/work 1 day weekly PE Madness program in the evenings 
  • Provide direct leadership for the Outreach Program:
    • Planning, promotion, and evaluation of all program Outreach Sites
    • Hiring, training and supervision of staff and volunteers
    • Work with families in each program site to evaluate needs 
  • Provide direct leadership for the Southington Catholic Physical Education Partnership
    • Planning weekly gym classes for all students in grades K-8
    • Facilitate the partnership between the school and the YMCA
    • Act as an ambassador for all YMCA programming at Southington Catholic
    • Work with YMCA staff to plan field trips to use YMCA facilities 
  • Assist the Sr. Program Director to promote, manage and supervise Family Events and Programs:
    • Assist in Coordinating designated Family events held at the YMCA
    • Play a supporting role in the Family Program Team and other family programs offered at the YMCA 
  • Hold a position with a major area of responsibility at one or more of the Southington Y’s 3 main summer programs: YMCA Camp Sloper, Naciwonki Summer Adventures, or Race 4 Chase. 
  • Assist in the leadership of groups at the YMCA Camp Sloper Outdoor Center: Teambuilding, School Groups, Environmental Education, Rentals as available 
  • Play a supporting role in schools out days and vacation week programming for YMCA Camp Sloper 
  • Coordinate all Birthday Parties/Rentals at the YMCA:
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate birthday party staff
  • Provide good communication and timely response to interested families
  • Work with the Sr. Program Director/Administrative Staff on reservation of the rooms 
  • Play a supporting role in all YMCA special events 
  • Work with other local agencies to improve community relations

Required Certifications
  • Certifications in First Aid, CPR and AED required. 
  • Certifiation in or the ability to obtain lifeguarding prefered. 
  • Certifiation in or the ability to obtain high and low ropes course facilitation.
