Job Description

Under the supervision of the Youth and Family Director, the Teen Programming and Sports Manager is responsible for leading and developing assigned Teen Programs and high-quality Youth Sports programs while also directing part-time Teen Program and Youth Sports staff and volunteers. They must run the program with safety in the forefront. The Teen Programming and Sports Manager is responsible for managing the functions of the program in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

Qualifications

1) Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Youth Development, Sports Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

2) Proven track record of prior experience in youth programming and sports coordination. One to two years related experience preferred.

3) Minimum age of 21 years old.

4) Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR/First Aid/AID, Bloodborne Pathogens, NC Childcare Licensing Trainings.

5) Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications. The Y: We’re for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

6) Ability to effectively manage staff, volunteers, and program schedules.

7) Exceptional oral, public speaking and written communication skills.

8) Possess a high level of organization, ability to prioritize and possess the capacity to respond and handle multiple tasks appropriately in a dynamic and fast paced work environment.

9) Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

10) Drives and operates YMCA vehicle(s) safely and professionally. CDL license with P endorsement obtained within 6 months of hire.

Essential Functions

• Contributes to and supervises the fulfillment of the YMCA mission through the Youth and Family department’s activities and programs.

• Plans and promotes high quality and engaging programming, with an emphasis on safety, relationships, skill development, character development, group control and fun.

• Direct Program Oversight:

o Develop, launch, lead, supervise, and grow a YMCA Youth and Government, Campers in Leadership Training (CILT), etc.

o Youth Sports including but not limited to basketball, Tots Sports, etc.

o Build relationships and engagement with youth & teens

o Intentionally develop, launch, lead, supervise, and grow Youth Sports

o Direct and lead Teen Programs & Sports part-time staff and volunteers

• Plans and organizes day-to-day operations and is present in assigned programs.

• Completing daily program schedules, staff schedules, purchasing of supplies, equipment, transportation, etc.

• Creates rosters and teams. Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings, training and meetings for coaches.

• Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.

• Assists in the marketing and distribution of teen programming and youth sports information, organize and schedule program registrations.

• Maintain a flexible work schedule, which includes frequent evenings and occasional weekends.

• Supports the overall vision for youth and overall YMCA initiatives. The Y: We’re for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

• Continually evaluates, improves, and innovates all assigned programs to ensure they meet or exceed Association guidelines and standards.

• Maintains all records of their assigned programs that are necessary for the operation of the department and YMCA effectively.

• Recruits and incorporates volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success.

• Maintains current and required certifications and records for staff. • Attends all meetings that are pertinent to this position.

• Completed all reporting related to teen programming and Youth Sports.

• Assists with the YMCA Annual Campaign through development of staff team, recruiting volunteers and meeting annual fundraising goals as assigned.

• Fulfills department/YMCA obligations as required by supervisor.

• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
