Job Description

The YMCA of Snohomish County is the largest single provider of aquatic programs in Snohomish County with 8 pools and 6 aquatic centers. We are looking for an innovative, energetic, inspiring, and experienced aquatic professional to be the face of aquatic programs at our flagship branch- the Everett YMCA. 
  
This position has direct oversight and leadership of the Everett YMCA lifeguard training and staff. Serve as a member of the Everett YMCA Aquatic leadership team, and support the overall objectives of the YMCA Aquatics Advancement Team. Develop, organize and implement high quality YMCA aquatic programs. Schedule is a Sunday – Thursday work week with flexible schedule based on department needs built around peak program times during these days. Working in program ratio 20 hours per week, creating a safe, positive and inclusive atmosphere that promotes participant safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies, practices and procedures.

Qualifications

1.2+ years’ experience in swim instruction and lifeguarding 

2. Current First Aid, CPRPRO (BLS), AED and O2 certifications, trainer instructor preferred, or able to obtain within 30 days of employment 

3 . Current YMCA Lifeguard or RLSS, CRC, ARC Lifeguard preferred (required if the position will supervise Lifeguards) or able to obtain within 90 days of employment 

4 . Lifeguard trainer or swim instructor trainer preferred 

5. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities 

6 .Emotionally mature and able to manage self and others in high-stress situations 

7. Prior program or staff supervision preferred 

8. Experience working with individuals, families and communities of diverse backgrounds and abilities  

9. Strong computer skills and experience with standard business software  

10 .Strong professional written and verbal communication skills 

11 .Fluency in second language desired

Essential Functions

Direct and supervise lifeguarding staff, schedule and trainings to meet YMCA objectives 

Be present and on deck during necessary programming hours weekdays (Monday – Thursday) and 10:00am – 5:00pm on Sundays 

Establish new opportunities for member and community pool access within our diverse community in accordance with strategic and operating plans, develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations 

Promote a diverse workforce; recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and supervise direct personnel and volunteers as needed 

Review and evaluate staff performance, develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals 

Ensure records of staff certifications are current and complete 

Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations 

Conduct and ensure proper maintenance of pools 

Secure and schedule pool facilities 

Maintain accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance 

Able to assist in planning and implementing staff training in-services once per month typically held 2nd Saturday from 5:00pm – 9:00pm 

Conduct lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid, CPRFPR, AED and O2 trainings 

Plan and implement aquatic drilling schedule to meet monthly goals and assist in facility drills 

Create a schedule for lifeguarding staff that aligns with programming, community needs, our mission and budgetary goals  

Scheduled and available as backup to perform lifeguarding and swim instructor jobs as needed 

Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information within YMCA and greater Everett community 

Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner 

May organize events and/or represent the YMCA at community events 

Assist with Program Committee meetings 

Compile program statistics 

Monitor and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program

The full range of the pay grade for this position is $22.83 - $35.30.
