POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Head Coach oversees all daily operations for adult and youth swim teams. Recruits, hires, and develops all swim coaches. Develops, organizes, and implements high-quality YMCA and USA competitive swimming programs. Provides leadership to the overall YMCA competitive swim program as well as part-time coaches and volunteers. Works with staff to ensure YMCA competitive swim programs operate at peak performance. The Geneva YMCA Swim Team is an age group swimming program that focuses on all of our swimmers developing their abilities in a competitive swimming program that stresses overall growth, both personally and athletically, in a safe environment. We actively promote the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility as our foundation. This enables our members to develop in a competitive team environment that will give them the skills necessary to be successful in swimming and in life. Master Swim Team is a dedicated team of adult (18+) competitive swimmers who improve technique, endurance, and train for triathlons or competitions, including virtual no-commute meets and regional USMS events.
Must possess current Red Cross Lifeguarding certification or have the ability to obtain within 60 days. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (W.S.I.) certification or equivalent experience/training a plus.
· Obtain safety Training for Swim Coaches and USA certification within 60 days of hire, or show proof that it has been completed and maintain USA Coaching certifications and standards.
· Must also be able to pass the USA Swimming background check and the Geneva Lakes Family YMCA background check before final hire. Complete all required Child Abuse Prevention courses as assigned.
· Swim Coaching experience, with 2 or more years on a competitive team. Have a passion for competitive swimming, enthusiasm for working with young athletes, and be able to teach and motivate swimmers with a positive approach. Background in competitive swimming, stroke mechanics, age-appropriate dryland training techniques, USA swimming rules and regulations.
· Directs and supervises all competitive swimming program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Organization, administration, program development, promotion, and daily operation of the swim team and other aquatic responsibilities as assigned.
· Establishes new activities and expands current competitive programs within the community in accordance with YMCA standards.
· Ensure that program operates within program guidelines as directed by state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations. Maintain a clean, safe environment for swim team participants.
· Actively market, develop and promote the swim team and other assigned programs.
· Recruits, hires, trains, and directs part-time coaches and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance on a yearly basis. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
· Schedule and organize training to ensure all support staff are certified in required areas.
· Ensures high-quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations, and ongoing training of staff.
· Creates thorough, age-appropriate workouts that are connected to swimmer’s goals, as well as skill development on completive swimming.
· Provides leadership and administrative oversight to all matters relating to the team, inclusive of swim practices, swim meets, team performance, and interaction with parents.
· Coordinates and executes swim team competitions and meet registrations.
· Oversees information management regarding team activity inclusive of meet information and results, parent and swimmer communications, and other publicity needs.
· Plans and oversees all aspects of the any fundraisers for teams, includes swim-a-thon and Venetian Festival.
· Attends swim team events such as meets, meetings, social events, and a year-end banquet.
· Actively engages parents and cultivates relationships to create a collaborative swim team environment.
· Develops and controls department budgets related to the position.
· Assist as needed with YMCA operations, building coverage, meetings, and special events.
· Achieve retention goals, as well as growth goals, for department income and special events.
· Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned. Assist in YMCA special events when competition schedule allows.
· Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations and other entities associated with the swim team
· Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
· Maintain Team Unify website (designate someone in case of emergency), Meet Manager and basic MS Office skills.
· Manage/Maintain/Update team and swimmer records.
· Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Executive Director.
