Senior Accountant

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a knowledgeable and diligent Senior Accountant to join our team.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Senior Accountant is responsible for the maintenance of our financial records pertaining to cash, investment portfolios, endowment account, grants, restricted funds, and bank transactions including receipts, fund transfers, and disbursements. The position works closely with Financial Development Department to record donations, endowments, and pledges accurately and timely per GAAP. The position is also responsible for bank reconciliation and financial analysis as well as support for external audits.

The Senior Accountant will be expected to provide technical support for major project accounting and work with the Controller to develop policies and procedures to strengthen financial internal control. The Senior Accountant will provide backup support for the entire finance team The success of this position depends on the avid curiosity, high energy, technical capability, and willingness to assume additional responsibilities to support and collaborate with key stakeholders of the organization. 

Compensation: $95,000.00 to $110,000.00 per year, depending on qualifications

Hours: Full-Time, Hybrid

Location: YMCA Association Office, Tacoma, WA

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent. Advanced degree preferred
  • CPA or CMA with strong working knowledge of A/R, A/P, and banking products preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of senior level related experience in GAAP accounting with strong general ledger, banking, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and practical accounting software/SaaS knowledge
  • Nonprofit fund accounting experience a plus
  • Demonstrated expertise with computerized accounting systems and strong aptitude toward working with multiple internal systems and SaaS platforms
  • Must have advanced EXCEL skills and superior analytical skills with attention to detail
    Excellent active listening and organizational skills
Essential Functions
  • Account for all bank transactions and investment activities accurately and in a timely fashion including monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Collaborates with the Financial Development Department and Revenue Accountant to recognize revenue accurately and timely.
  • Support the Controller in managing monthly accounting cycle and ensure data quality of our financial records.
  • Monitor and reconcile donations and pledge activities within the temporarily restricted account on a monthly basis.
  • Make deposits at the bank as needed.
  • Actively engage with Center staff for revenue recognition, expenditures recognition, cash handling practices and develop appropriate procedures to strengthen internal control.
  • Review and file monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reports and informational reports with the local and state agencies in timely fashion.
  • Maintain SEFA in compliance with the Uniform Guidance to manage recording of federal grants.
  • Maintain current and accurate records of fixed assets including acquisition, disposal, and depreciation.
  • Ensure accurate and timely accounting of all capital project expenses.
  • Reconcile all major balance sheet accounts as assigned.
  • Provide support to the Controller for annual audit by preparing required year-end audit schedules and work papers.
  • Track documents provided with the external auditors to ensure completion of the audit schedule in timely fashion.
  • Support and back up other members of the finance department as needed including accounts payable, accounts receivable and etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
