Job Description

The Tampa Metro Area YMCA is seeking a passionate, forward-thinking Executive Director with a proven track record of developing strong Advisory Boards, increasing annual giving and engaging the community through membership growth and program innovation while advancing the Y’s impact in the community.

This highly motivated, mission-driven, transformational leader will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Operations and be responsible for day-to-day center operations. The successful candidate will demonstrate success in staff supervision, membership and program innovation, fiscal management, fundraising, volunteer cultivation and community engagement. Developing and coaching an experienced staff team to new levels of service will be key to realizing the center and staff’s full potential.

The Campo Family YMCA, located in the suburbs of the Tampa metropolitan area, is a beautiful 50,000+ sq ft full-facility YMCA.  Facilities include three heated outdoor swimming pools (utilized year-round in the warm Florida sunshine), a full gymnasium, a wellness center, a teen center, youth and family program spaces and significant wellness program spaces, all benefitting from recent improvements totaling $1.5MM.  This 4,000+ household YMCA is led by a team of tenured and skilled professionals in all departments and thrives on an annual operating budget of $4MM with significant growth potential.  The current Revenue breakdown includes membership of $2.8MM, programs of $1.2MM and annual giving of $150K.

Qualifications
  • BA/BS from an accredited college or university in business, non-profit management or related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in business operations, growth and development, community involvement, relationship building, program/business line development, staff selection, supervision and development, and day-to-day enterprise operations management.
  • Prior experience in large facility management (50sf or larger) preferred.
  • Supervision of large Y operations or similar health, wellness, recreation operation (Executive, or Operations Director Level) that exceeds $3M in operating revenue and 3,000 membership units (households).
  • Demonstrated skills in fiscal management and financial development (including annual campaign and capital campaigns) with a track record of exceeding operating margin and fundraising budget targets.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making.
  • Preference given to applicants who have management experience of Large YMCA centers.

Essential Functions
  • Establish a culture of quality and service to meet and exceed the goals and objectives set forth in the strategic plan and Association Operating Standards and Best Practices.
  • Represents and promotes the Y in the local community by developing strategic, positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor a balanced operating budget to exceed operating margin targets. 
  • Develop and direct high-quality, relationship-based member engagement strategies.
  • Provide metrics to measure program/membership impact, staff, and program and membership satisfaction. 
  • Maintain center and association certifications in CPR, Multimedia First Aid, Blood-borne Pathogens, Metro Atlanta YMCA new staff orientation, branch orientation and branch emergency procedures. 
  • Manage delivery of related programs to exceed YMCA standards and program objectives. 
  • Participate in Association-wide activities and initiatives. 
  • Act as the lead champion for the Annual Giving Campaign including but not limited to volunteer recruitment, training and support, and lead as an integral member of the management team committed to reaching stated fund-raising goals. 
  • Serve on the Executive Operating Team,  liaison with appropriate professional groups in the community and serve on Association Task Forces. 
  • Effective board development including recruitment of board members who represent the branch community and developing a strong board committee structure.
  • Ensures revenue growth through a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs that support the Y mission, goals, and strategies.
  • Effectively mentor, supervise, and develop center staff and volunteers and build an exceptional culture to motivate them to achieve their personal and professional goals.
  • Responsible for facility management and maintenance to ensure high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.   A culture of risk management and safety is maintained at the branch. Maintains required safety and training certifications, Emergency Action Plans, SDS Manuals, etc.
