Job Description

Under the direction of the Branch Executive Director, the Program Director will manage all aspects of the aquatic, adult & youth sports, fitness and program departments of the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA Milton Branch in accordance with the mission, goals and policies of the association.

Qualifications

The Program Director must understand and be committed to the YMCA mission and its program operating principles. The Director should understand the basic concepts and working of a volunteer led organization, in particular, the nature of the YMCA as a partnership between volunteers and staff. 

The position requires a BS/BA degree in Health/Physical Education or Recreation or its equivalent in academic preparation. The Director must possess good communication skills, have a strong background in adult/youth sports development, have the ability to plan and market new program thrusts, possess good organizational skills, oversee youth sports expansion and adult fitness programs/assessments, be able to hire, train and supervise staff and volunteers working in their respective program areas, have the knowledge to write and administer exercise and health education programs for youth through adults. Must be able to teach group exercise and acquire all aquatic certificates within six months of employment. The Program Director must possess current Lifeguarding (or willing to obtain it in 30 days), American Red Cross CPR/First Aid, PA Child Abuse Clearance and PA Police Criminal Background check.

Essential Functions

1.       Recruits, trains, schedules and supervises instructors, guards and volunteers in assigned program areas. Ensures proficiency through periodic training sessions and provides the opportunity for staff to upgrade certifications at YMCA courses.

2.       Develops and implements respective schedules for program areas, instructs classes, directs activities and substitutes when necessary.

3.       Conducts evaluations of staff and makes recommendations within policy guidelines to Branch Executive Director in pay rates when warranted.

4.       Maintains attendance records and provides evaluations of each program twice a year.

5.       Conducts staff meetings and lifeguard in-services quarterly, attend designated meetings and develops agenda and participates in program committee meetings.

6.       Assists the Branch Executive Director in developing annual operating budgets and operates assigned programs within the budget.

7.       Revises program information and schedules for web site as needed.

8.       Continual advertise/marketing of programs and works with the Communications Coordinator to promote special events/activities.

9.       Maintains a good working relationship with community organizations, United Way Agency and school districts promoting YMCA programs within the community.

10.   Develops new programs within budgetary guidelines and as schedule allows. Participates in GSV YMCA special events.

11.   Assists the Property Manager and Custodians with the cleanliness and safe efficient operating order of all YMCA facilities and equipment. Continually review facility, equipment and supplies to assure good condition.

12.   Oversees daily operation of the indoor pool at the Milton YMCA.

13.   Directs upkeep of pool (clean deck, clean closet, pool cleaner and regular emergency procedure testing). Responsible for the cleanliness of the pool and water chemistry.

14.   Participates in member service functions including tours, selling memberships and membership retention.

15.   Teaches and coordinates aquatics programs to include swim lessons and Aquacise. Lifeguard as needed.

16.   Reviews current aquatic programs and makes recommendations to Branch Executive Director as needed.

17.   Oversee, supervise, and coordinate youth, teen and adult programs.

18.   Direct & assist Group Ex Coordinator with all group exercise programs. Supervisor of Coordinator.

19.   Involved with fitness center, fitness equipment orientations and supervision of Personal Trainers.

20.    Assures that all programs comply with the YMCA Mission Statement.

21.   Assumes role of building supervisor in absence of Branch Executive Director.

22.   Other duties assigned by Branch Executive Director or CEO.

Required Certifications

BS degree in Health/Physical Education, Recreation or related field.

POssess or willing to aquire lifeguard certification, group exercise certification, CPR/AED/First Aid
