The Norfolk Family YMCA is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Y family!
Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Sports Coordinator at the Norfolk Family YMCA will lead, develop and launch sports/activities that bring youth, adults and families closer together, encourage good health and foster connections through sports, fitness, camps, family events and enrichment activities. This position develops, organizes and implements the following Y programs: youth sports (traditional and non-traditional), adult sports and leagues, family oriented programs, sports based partnerships, facility sports rentals and summer sport camps.

Qualifications

•Bachelor's degree from a four-year college/university in Sports Management/Recreation/ Health Sciences or related field, preferred or

•2-year degree with at least 2 years of related work experience or

•High School diploma with at least 4 years of related work experience.

•Two years of experience supervising and developing staff and volunteer teams, preferred.

•Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Essential Functions

Ensures programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed, in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

Management of program rosters, enrollment and reporting. Evaluate program effectiveness.

Recruits and/or hires staff and volunteer coaches. Trains and develops staff and volunteers to meet program goals and quality measures. Utilizes strategies to motive, empower staff and achieve key objectives.

Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships internally and externally to include community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.

Develops and monitors the program budgets to meet fiscal objectives.

Communicate and model operating procedures to ensure a high level of customer service and ensure a quality customer experience.

Develops new programs, leagues, or services that meet the needs of the community and that are aligned with strategic goals.

Welcomes current and new family members and provides support in aligning their needs with programs.

Oversees sports leagues, volunteers, referees, and coaches.

Ability to be flexible to work evenings and some weekends.
