Job Description

The YMCA is a prominent nonprofit organization committed to enhancing community well-being through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction and supervision of the Facilities Director, the Maintenance personnel provide front line support to the program activities and staff by preparing and maintaining the physical properties, equipment and supplies of the Ridgewood YMCA. This position bears the responsibility for recognizing and anticipating property needs as well as responding to staff and user reports of needs by initiating corrective measures.

Qualifications

·         Applicants must possess a current, valid Black Seal Boiler Operator License issued by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

·         A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

·         Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

·         Must be able to speak, read and write English to communicate effectively with others.

·         Ability to cooperate with co-workers and facility staff.

·         Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis.

·         Must be able to be at work as scheduled on time.

·         Must be able to lift/carry a maximum of 50 pounds, push/pull a maximum of 50 pounds, stand, sit, bend and walk for extended periods of time.

Essential Functions

·         Monitor and operate boilers along with associated equipment.

·         Monitor and test swimming pools every two hours.

·         Review check list of facility every shift to assess if cleaning of all areas of the building has been complete.

·         Responsible for day to day preventative items that could include painting, changing of filters for air units and/or pools, general plumbing, changing of light bulbs, etc.

·         Maintain painted surfaces, repainting as necessary due to wear or graffiti

·         Maintains boiler all year round and conducts routine maintenance and repair for boiler

·         Communicate with the cleaning supervisor on cleaning issues found.

·         Complete repairs or projects as directed by the buildings and grounds supervisor.

·         Reports to the Director of buildings and grounds

·         Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
