Job Description

The Wellness Director is responsible for the strategic leadership and overall management of the YMCA's wellness programs, fostering a culture of health and inclusion for the YMCA members. This role focuses on enhancing department performance, improving member retention, and elevating staff accountability to deliver high-quality programs aligned with the YMCA's mission. The Wellness Director will lead the wellness team and oversee operations, programming, staff development, and budget management, driving innovation and excellence in all aspects of the department.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, or a related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in wellness programming, preferably in a YMCA or similar organization
  • Proven ability to manage large-scale programs, staff teams, and budgets
  • Certifications in Personal Training (e.g., NASM, ACSM, ACE) and Group Exercise Instruction preferred
  • Strong skills in conflict resolution, team leadership, and performance improvement
  • Track record of driving member engagement and retention initiatives
Essential Functions

Leadership and Strategic Oversight:

  • Provide vision and leadership to the wellness department, ensuring alignment with the YMCA's mission and strategic goals

Program and Member Engagement:

  • Oversee the development, delivery, and evaluation of fitness and wellness programs, including personal training, small group training, group exercise, and active older adult programs

Staff Leadership and Development:

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all wellness department staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement

Operational Management and Budgeting:

  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of the wellness center, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and proper functioning of equipment
