Direct and oversees program development, operations and delivery of multiple or Association-wide program area(s) to the membership and community.
Under the direction of the Branch Director the HLD Director will be responsible for the oversight of, fitness staff, fitness areas and equipment, group exercise programs, staffing, schedules and personal trainers. The Director will also be responsible for overall organization, administration, development, supervision and implementation of health and wellness services for the association. This will include but is not limited to the development and implementation of member retention initiatives, program development and community outreach. This individual should be recognized as a leader in fitness and wellness with members, staff, and the community. The ideal candidate will understand the health-seeker population and serving those with chronic illnesses. The Director is responsible for upholding service and engagement best practices by developing their teams of personal trainers, group exercise instructors, and fitness center floor staff, while aggressively expanding the Y’s impact through revenue-generating programs.
• Bachelor's degree in program area or related field or equivalent education/experience.
• Three to five years of related experience including staff and volunteer supervision, community program development, financial management and fundraising.
• Broad knowledge of assigned program area(s) and the standards and regulations related to programming.
• Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
• CPR and First Aid certifications required.
• Most positions require skills in child behavior management and child abuse prevention.
• Most positions require the ability to visit sites and community organizations.
• Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
• Nationally recognized group fitness, personal training & Y lifeguard certification.

Responsibilities:
Directs and manages the development, operations and growth of assigned program area(s), which typically include Association-wide or multiple program areas.
• Establish new program activities and expand program(s) within the community in accordance with the Association and branch strategic plans.
• Develops and manages the budgets related to the position. Meets fiscal objectives. Closely monitors revenue and expense.
• Recruit, hire, train, evaluate and supervise assigned staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Provides development and leadership.
• Compiles program statistics and provides data and reports as required for assigned program(s). Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program(s).
• Provides leadership and support for branch management team, annual fund-raising campaign, and volunteer committees/boards as assigned.
• Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.
• Develops, produces and distributes program information necessary to promote assigned programs in accordance with branch marketing plans.
• Ensures that safety procedures are followed and that all programs are in compliance with YMCA standards, all regulations and other applicable standards.
• Ensures high quality programs through innovative program development evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
• Ensures upkeep of related facilities and equipment.
Program Area Requirements:
• Health and Wellness: Experience in working with the health seeker market preferred. Proven experience in training others. Ability to provide Total Health program in community/corporate setting.
Membership/Marketing: Experience in membership, marketing and/or sales. Experience in working with the health seeker market preferred.
