Job Description

The Harrisburg Area YMCA is currently accepting applications for a Race Director position at the East Shore branch. The Race Director will work to effectively plan, manage, and oversee YMCA race series. Event planning for each race is unique and the physical demands are varied throughout the race season. The Race Director will work closely with event sponsors and build relationships throughout the community to create new organizational sponsorships, volunteer opportunities, and marketing options for each event. High levels of interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are required for success in the position. Other duties will include involvement and supporting youth & adult programs.

Qualifications
  • Race-management or event planning experience preferred
  • Experience dealing with event vendors, sponsors and volunteers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Twitter, Facebook
  • Ability to communicate verbal and written information effectively to team members
  • Specific experience with non-profit and/or volunteer coordination preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Must have open flexibility in scheduling
  • Driver’s license and personal vehicle required. Must be able to drive rental vehicles (box trucks)
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently
Essential Functions

1. Manage relationships with event sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and race participants through phone, electronic, and in person means for separate events throughout the year, and develop new sponsorship opportunities with local organizations.

2. Administrative work consisting of: initiating design of race courses, creating marketing/advertising plans throughout the year to increase participation/awareness.

3. Prepare and distribute race event supplies leading up to each event – includes heavy lifting during loading and unloading - and post-event clean-up.

4. Maintain race inventory through ordering, purchasing, and organizing race supplies throughout the year.

5. Examine the physical routes of races to determine accessibility, and work to clear obstacles and create a usable environment for participants and volunteers.

6. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.

7. Plan and participate in special events corresponding to the YMCA.

8. All other duties as assigned by the Senior Program Director or Executive Director.
