Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Preschool Childcare Program Director develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA childcare programs for infant, toddler and preschool children.

Qualifications

1.    Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts (BA/BS) in Early Childhood Education; or A BA/BS in a Department-approved related field with 18 credit hours in Early Childhood Education and three years of direct childcare experience. 

2.    One to two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of childcare programs.

3.    Minimum age requirements may apply; for example, minimum age of 21 (define).

4.    Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; Bloodborne Pathogens.

5.    Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards as outlined in the State of Maine Childcare Licensing Rules.

6.    Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Essential Functions

1.    Manages, directs, and coordinates the early childhood childcare programs for the Bath Area Family YMCA. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

2.    Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

3.    Develops and submits timely budgets, to include staying within the parameters of the approved calendar year budget. Also, the accurate submission of forecasts and reforecast as required.

4.    Assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met, and safety procedures followed.

5.    Maintains NAEYC requirements and standards.

6.    Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.

7.    Develops and maintains relationships with state childcare licensing agencies, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.

8.    Provides staff leadership for annual fund-raising campaign and committees as assigned.

9.    Maintains proper records/department files.

10.  Organizes special events for parents. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities.

11.  Assists with Program Committee meetings.

12.  Assists In the marketing and distribution of program information.

13.  Assists in Leader on Duty responsibilities as assigned.

14.  Provide assistance and information with grants, procurements and compliance with timely application processes.

15.  Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.

16.  Collaborates with Executive Director and staff team as necessary/requested to ensure successful outcome of the YMCA operations and mission.

17.  Attends weekly ESLT meetings, and weekly direct report meetings to include full participation, preparation, and engagement during scheduled meetings.

18.  Develop goals and objectives that are for all full time and part-time staff that are measurable and specific that align with the board approved strategic plan.

19.  Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely, caring and professional manner.

20.  Adhere to all risk management and safety policies, reporting any inconsistencies.

21.  Accept other duties as assigned from the Executive Director of Early Learning and Family Services.

Required Certifications
