Amazing Aquatic Facility!  The Wellmark YMCA Aquatic Facility features a 50-meter Indoor Olympic pool & 4 lane warm-up/cool-down pool.
Job Description

This position is responsible for developing, organizing and implementing aquatic programs and maintaining a safe, hazard-free aquatics environment.  This position supervises staff and volunteers and may manage community and vendor agreements and relationships.

Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in recreation, business, human services, social services, related field or equivalent work experience.

  2. Two to four years of experience in program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.

  3. Two years of aquatics related work experience.

  4. Minimum of one year of experience in a supervisory or leadership role. 

  5. Demonstrated computer skills in a Microsoft Office or Google Workspace environment.

  6. Ability to direct programs through supervision of staff and volunteers, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.

  7. Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.

  8. Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certifications or equivalent - prior to starting if hired

  9. Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  This position usually works in an office, fitness, and/or aquatic oriented environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces.  This position works a standard work week, but additionally will often work evening, weekend, and additional hours to accommodate management of program activities and representation of the organization at events.

Essential Functions

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT/MANAGEMENT

  1. Create, develop and implement new programs. 

  2. Manage assigned program areas and activities, ensuring programs comply with all applicable YMCA standards and methods of operation and continually strive to attain the highest possible level of quality.

  3. Expand participation in assigned programs.

  4. Evaluate and review all aspects of assigned programs to ensure consistent quality and safety.

  5. Assist in development and distribution of materials to market and promote programs.

PROMOTION MANAGEMENT

  1. Assist in the development and distribution of materials to market and promote programs.

  2. Conduct marketing and promotion for assigned programs.

  3. Assist in the identification of target audience(s) for assigned programs.

FISCAL MANAGEMENT

  1. Prepare and submit required budget planning and management information for program area(s).

  2. Monitor assigned budget to ensure revenue and expenses are consistent with approved budget plan.

  3. Prepare and submit all required financial information and reports.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

  1. Determine staffing needs of assigned program area(s) within YMCA guidelines and procedures.

  2. Assist in the recruiting process and manage the selection process as determined by guidelines and procedures.

  3. Conduct required orientation and training for assigned staff.

  4. Manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff to ensure satisfactory job performance.

  5. Manage and maintain staffing to cover all areas of assigned program(s).

  6. Ensure applicable staff development opportunities are taken by assigned staff.

  7. Prepare and submit payroll paperwork and time/attendance information as required by YMCA policies and procedures and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

MEMBER SERVICE/COMMUNITY RELATIONS

  1. Build relationships with members connecting each person with the YMCA.

  2. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.

  3. Serve as a YMCA representative, both within the organization and outside the organization.

  4. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the organization as embodied in the mission statement and value

OTHER

  1. Assist in organization’s financial development efforts, including the annual fundraising campaign.

  2. Plan, prepare and organize special events as required.  

  3. Serve on organization and community committees and teams as required.

  1. Current Iowa Certified Pool Operator – within the first 90 days if hired

  2. Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification - within the first 180 days of hire
