The Executive Director provides strategic and operations leadership for all assigned area of responsibility, ensuring quality services and programs for members and the community that support the Association’s strategic plan. Reporting to the Vice President of Branch Operations, this position is responsible for the overall operations of the David D. Hunting YMCA, with an operating budget size of $6.6 million, 9,900 membership units, and facility size of 159,000 square feet. The Executive Director oversees the management of programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development, financial development, fiscal management, and collaborations with community agencies. This position operates in accordance with policies, procedures, and standards established by the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Board of Directors and the David D. Hunting YMCA Branch Board of Advisors.
Additionally, this position will oversee the development, implementation, execution, and evaluation of all family programming including youth and adult sports, arts & humanities, adaptive programming, and STEAM programming association-wide.
This position may involve early morning, evening, weekend responsibilities.
Bachelor’s degree (BA) from four-year college or university, Master’s degree preferred; ten+ years of supervision, program development, budget management, fundraising, and community collaboration experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. YMCA or Not-for-Profit Management experience preferred. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. Working knowledge of computers and experience with a variety of software applications.
Operations & Family Programming Development
· Oversees the development, implementation, execution, and evaluation of all family programming association wide, including youth and adult sports, arts & humanities, adaptive programming, and STEAM
· Develops long-range plans for the expansion of family and youth programs and services, consistent with overall Y strategy and objectives; monitor progress related these objectives and exercise appropriate action to ensure their achievement
· Translates Association’s strategic plan into actionable goals for performance and growth, helping to implement association-wide goal setting, operational performance management, and annual operating planning
· Evaluates current systems and procedures for operations management, addressing deficiencies and implementing new procedures when necessary
· Guides the visioning process of program development and provides the leadership that will encourage the development of new programs
· Establishes new program activities, increases participation, and expands programming within the community in accordance with Association/Branch strategic and operating plans
· Develops and maintains relationships and visibility within the community including relationships with local school districts and community organizations
Human Resource Management
· Provides oversight, reviews, and holds Y leadership accountable to critical branch metrics such as financial performance (meeting revenue goals/monitoring of expenses), member engagement/retention, and continuous quality improvement.
· Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Association’s policies and applicable laws
· Sets goals and objectives for staff under their supervision; provides staff training and coaching as necessary
· Conducts annual performance reviews and recommends salary adjustments
· Supports the Association in recruitment of diverse staff and volunteers
· Recruits, Interviews, hires, and trains staff in accordance with established Association policies; plans, assigns, and directs work; rewards and disciplines staff; addresses complaints and resolves problems
Fiscal Management
· Manages and monitors the operating budget and annual budget for assigned areas
· Assists staff in identifying and meeting all development needs with action plans built into the next fiscal year budget
· Monitors monthly budget and year-end forecasting
· Maintains systems of financial control including revenues, expenses, and inventories
Financial Development
· Establishes sufficient funding to provide services consistent with established goals
· Leads the branch annual campaign through building relationships, engaging volunteers, and carrying out other assigned fundraising duties
Volunteer and Community Development
· Works with the Branch Board of Advisors to achieve a high degree of understanding of the concept of The Association, and the policies and procedures that govern the organization
· Cultivates and maintains relationships with community leaders and YMCA board members
· Leads and enhances the Y's participation in the community and recruitment of committed volunteers
· Leads, along with the Board Chair, the recruitment, maintenance, and engagement of a productive Branch Board
· Engages volunteers and supports their development
Performs any other functions deemed to be necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Association
Fiscal Management
· Acts responsibly with the Y’s resources, following all budgeting policies and procedures and reporting irregularities immediately.

· State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
· Blood Borne Pathogen training
· Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification required within the first 60 days
· First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days
· AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days
