Job Description

Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Day Camp Program Director is responsible for the implementation and development of, but not limited to Day Camp, Outdoor Center programming and Family Camps. This position is based at Camp Jewell YMCA but will be responsible for all programming at Camp Chase located in Burlington, Connecticut, which operates from June through August. in addition to being part of the year-round program team at Camp Jewell the remainder of the year.

Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years old or older.
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Recreation Management, Education, or related fields) and two years of professional experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in adventure programming, environmental education, and camping is highly desired.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills are required.
  • Ability to work well with youth, adults, staff, and parents.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Must possess or attain CPR for Professional Rescuer/AED Certifications within 30 days of hire. 
  • Must possess values consistent with the mission of the YMCA.
  • Must successfully complete YMCA New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Essential Functions
  1. Responsible for the operation of summer day camp, consisting of between 200-300 campers weekly during June-August.
  2. Serve as part of the program director team for groups at Camp Jewell outside of the summer.
  3. Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, ensure that all required standards and guidelines set forth by Department of Health, Office of Early Childhood, and A.C.A. are regularly met.
  4. Responsible for the creation, communication, marketing and implementation of innovative and progressive programming at YMCA Camp Chase.
  5. With guidance from the Executive Director, accountable for budget development and management for Camp Chase.
  6. Responsible for staff recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision for Summer Day Camp staff.
  7. Serves as a member of the Camp Jewell YMCA Staff Team, assisting with special events, programming and committees as assigned.
  8. Maintains and further develops contacts and relationships with area schools, community agencies, and businesses. Implements programs that identify safety, quality, and excellent customer services as top priorities. 
  9. Schedule and organize pre-summer trainings and ensure staff are certified in required areas.
  10. Attend all branch and Association meetings as assigned.
  11. Maintain knowledge of association policies and procedures, risk management and safety practices and applicable laws.
  12. Serve on branch and Association committees and contribute to training and special events as required.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned.
  14. Responsible for budget, and for achieving revenue goals. and for controlling expenses.
  15. Any other duties as assigned.
