The YMCA Camp Cullen facility is a best-in-class facility, intentionally designed to deliver a high-quality, immersive experience to kids of all ages. The cabins, activities, layout and amenities, mixed with the well-preserved natural environment provide a perfect setting for fun, growth, excitement, disconnection from the hustle of the world and reconnection with nature and new friends.
Provides direct supervision of all waterfront and pool programming. Maintains and cares for waterfront facilities, including but not limited to, boats, jet skiis, wakeboards, skiis, slide, paddle sport water crafts, sail boats and boat docks. Prepares and makes sure that all necessary waterfront equipment are ready to be used for summer camp programming. Maintains safe conditions on the waterfront and pool and ensures that all waterfront and pool staff adhere to safety standards put forth by the YMCA of Greater Houston and YMCA Camp Cullen. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes camper safety and engagement. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on youth development including the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith.
1. High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
2. At least 18 years of age.
3. Prefer 2 years previous experience working in a camp setting and 1 year of supervisory experience.
4. Previous experience as a Lifeguard preferred, certification will be required. Boater's Licencse also required.
5. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention trainings.
6. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
1) Supervises a group of aquatics and lifeguard staff, quality of programming and safety of staff and campers.
2) Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values.
3) Delivers a safe, fun and effective program.
a) Maintains current knowledge of all emergency procedures pertaining to aquatics activities.
b) Maintains constant surveillance of the aquatics and high-traffic areas on the Livingston Lake when campers and staff are present.
c) Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for aquatics activities.
d) Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
e) Takes immediate action to ensure safety procedures are followed by campers. Follows up with summer camp director to determine long-term solutions/actions, provides timely and accurate reports and follow-ups.
4) Responsible for completing daily tasks related to the physical operation of aquatics facilities, equipment and watercraft.
a) Works with the team to set-up the aquatics area prior to summer camp activities. This includes the completion of cleaning, preparing, equipment set up, and ensuring presence of necessary safety equipment as directed by the summer camp director.
b) Observes all watercraft closely for signs of damages and potential safety hazards.
c) Notes any additional repairs done for damages to waterfront equipment.
d) With maintain a close working relationship with the CFT to ensure that facilities and maintenance of Waterfront equipment is up to standard.
e) Participates in the completion of closing procedures following summer camp activities.
f) Conducts check of aquatics facilities and equipment for safety, cleanliness, organization and good repair. Completes general cleaning, organization and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Notifies summer camp director and CFT of needed facility and equipment repairs.
g) Ensures the availability of water and sunscreen at aquatics areas.
h) Submits requests in advance for additional equipment and supplies when needed.
i) Evaluates watercraft as requested, provides feedback, and performs training and behavior modification as instructed.
5) Participates enthusiastically with other program staff to prepare camp for summer camper arrivals, departures, and special events.
6) Participates enthusiastically in program staff and aquatics staff meetings and trainings.
7) Maintains positive relations with guests and other staff. Conveys information on programs and schedules to campers.
8) Attends camp marketing events and other special events as directed and other duties allow.
9) Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
10) Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
11) All other duties assigned.
