Join Decatur Family YMCA, a nonprofit with a 148-year legacy of community impact. We are looking for a Director of Finance to oversee our accounting and financial records, helping to guide decisions that shape our future. With a $3.5 million budget supported by multiple revenue streams, you’ll play a key role in managing our financial insights and driving positive change across Decatur and Macon County. This position has a direct effect on the financial operations of the YMCA, providing expertise and direction regarding accounting procedures including management of payroll accrual, accounts payable, financial compliance, and other areas of accounting as assigned. This position manages the software vendor relationship as pertains to payables, payroll, and works closely with human resources on a partner and strategic level as related to payroll activities.

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Director of Finance ensures a system of strong internal controls and fiscal soundness and provides direction and leadership for YMCA finance and business operations.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent. Professional designation (CPA, CMA) is preferred.

·         Three or more years of related experience in accounting.

·         Accounting experience in a nonprofit organization preferred.

·         Previous supervisory experience preferred.

·         Knowledge of, and expertise with, computerized accounting systems and standard business software.

Essential Functions

1.   Manages all functions of accounting and business operations, ensuring that legal and audit requirements are met, and that best practices and maximum efficiency are obtained.

2.   Oversees and provides leadership to the annual budget process including issuing guidelines and procedures, training staff, auditing budgets, overseeing data input, and preparing reports.

3.   Writes clearly and concisely, using correct grammar, vocabulary, and appropriate tone for the message or audience.

4.   Works with CEO to present monthly financial report to YMCA Finance Committee

5.   Manages the annual independent audit and the preparation of financial statements and the IRS 990 tax form; prepares or oversees the preparation of required audit schedules; maintains records; acts as liaison with audit team and YMCA Finance Committee.

6.   Implements appropriate systems and internal controls to adequately safeguard the YMCA's financial resources and to provide a solid basis for accurately reporting financial data.

7.   Prepares or supervises the preparation of outside reports and filings.

8.   Oversees the month-end and year-end closings and the preparation of statements and reports.

9.   May implement, manage, and oversee personnel and payroll administration including maintaining records and related systems.
