Job Description

Builds the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact. Develops and implements effective marketing and communication strategies. Reports to the Membership and Marketing Director, providing strategic leadership in financial development to advance the YMCA’s mission through annual giving, government and foundation grants, endowment bequests and gifts and capital campaigns. Assists the Membership and Marketing Director and the CEO in developing an actively engaged fundraising volunteer board of directors, and in positioning the YMCA as a “charity of choice” for the investment of donations within the local community.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

YMCA Leader or Team Leader experience preferred.

Previous professional experience in marketing and/or sales, and financial development preferred.

Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.

Working knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles, and grant writing expertise.

Ability to create interpretive materials to enable potential donors to understand the YMCA and how they contribute to the achievement of its mission.

Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations, handle media inquiries, and relate to top community leaders and diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Essential Functions

Development:

  • Develops, adopts and effectively administers annual departmental budgets.
  • Provides strategic leadership for the following programs related to Association financial development -
    • Annual Giving
    • Capital Campaigns
    • Planned Giving
    • Grant identification and proposal writing
    • Special Events / Sponsorship
  • Coordinates the solicitation of sponsorship for all Association programs and activities.
  • Coordinates with CEO in the development and sustainment of the Cornerstone Club.
  • Maintains accurate records of contributions and provides timely acknowledgment of gifts.
  • Works closely with Chief Operations Officer in coordinating annual United Way campaign.

Community Outreach / Special Events: 

  • Builds the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact.
  • Develops, nurtures and maintains positive collaborative relationships with area schools, churches, civic groups, local government entities, community organizations and other non-profits.
  • Actively participates in all staff functions, special events and community events as required, requested or assigned.
  • Represents the YMCA at community events.
  • Plans and coordinates Association’s Annual Dinner, Past President’s and Cornerstone Club Luncheon.

Marketing:

  • Develops and implements effective marketing and communication strategies for the association.
  • Develops and implements annual marketing plan and calendar.
  • Develops, produces and distributes program, membership, and event information to target audiences.
  • Develops and implements effective brand management processes and coordinates accordingly with other directors.
  • Serves as Brand Advocate for the organization.
  • Conducts marketing research as needed by the association.
  • Serves as staff liaison, along with Membership and Marketing Director, for the monthly Membership and Marketing Committee meetings.
  • Manages website.
  • Administers all social media accounts in a manner consistent with brand identity of the YMCA.
  • Serves as historian of YMCA functions, events and programming.
  • Coordinates with local media.

 Volunteer Engagement:

  • Work with CEO on all Board Development activities.
  • Develops strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels of financial development.
  • Recruits volunteers, in collaboration with Chief Operations Officer and program directors, to train and secure placement for selected volunteer applicants.
  • Maintains records of volunteers, organization-wide, for annual reporting purposes.
  • Responsible for coordinating set-up for monthly board meetings.

 General:

  • Takes responsibility for procurement and maintenance of all equipment, supplies and facilities related to development and marketing.
  • Oversees the recruiting, hiring, training and supervision of all Resource Development and Marketing staff.
  • Keeps records essential for control, evaluation and reporting to regulatory agencies, committees, Board of Directors and CEO.
  • Participates in weekly staff meetings.
  • Assumes other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
