The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking an Assistant Camp Director to join our team.

As the Assistant Camp Director, you will live and work at Camp Seymour, while supervising, supporting, and mentoring program staff, Resident Camp staff and campers. If hired, you will actively supervise and maintain safe, enjoyable, age-appropriate programs and events. Work alongside leadership staff and the Summer Program Director to organize and implement fun and engaging camp programming.
Qualifications
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- Two or more seasons of related experience preferred (overnight camp or conference facility).
- Preferred: Experience in customer service.
- Positive attitude and previous experience with diverse populations.
- Knowledge and skills in program activities and related equipment set-up, and the ability to instruct participants in age appropriate techniques.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications (strongly preferred).
- Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day. Complete other online and in-person training as required.

Essential Functions
- Schedule programming and staffing for all outside client groups, family camps, and Challenge Course groups.
- Ensure that facility and schedule are ready for group use prior to group arrival.
- Schedule and supervise family camp program staff and group services retreats.
- Support summer planning, schedules, staff training, ACA standards and staff hiring.
- Keep the facility clean and uncluttered, and follow appropriate clean-up guidelines & closing procedures.
- Responsible for facility management and site security, including weekly updates of any necessary repairs to maintenance staff.
- Group communication to ensure expectations are met
- Overnight coverage – Availability on radio for overnight emergencies while groups are here (remain onsite).
- Create, distribute, and summarize all weekend participant evaluations.
- Lock and unlock buildings and gates to meet the group’s needs and standard operating procedures.
- Facilitate activity programming, manage/supervise program staff
- Between groups prepare for upcoming groups (as needed)
- Support summer preparation – Prepare ACA standards binders, make summer reservations, training arrangements, request necessary purchases, pre-season staff communication, arrange staff/career fairs and promotional events, maintain equipment, design schedules (activities, overnights, activity rotations) with support/input of all key leadership staff.
- Year-round management of program area supplies and safety standards (ACA)
- Design/Implement Summer Activity schedules, programs, evaluations.
- Ensure program quality and safety standards are being met in archery, boating, pool, crafts, climbing wall and other activity areas – Coach and supervise area lead and support staff.
- Deliver and Manage in-house and vendor delivered trainings to ensure all ACA and Association standards are met.
- Meet goals set collectively with Summer Program Director and Executive Director for year-round summer preparation.
- Arrive on time for all group programs dressed appropriately and ready to work.
- Deliver excellent customer service at check-in and check-out through professional appearance and positive attitude.
- Support program team and work closely with staff associates in providing quality program experiences for all participants.
- Encourage professional growth and support staff through increasing personal program skills and delivery.
- Other duties as assigned.
