Located in White Haven, PA in the Pocono Mountains, our facility includes 1,100 acres with a private lake and a variety of activity areas.
Job Description

The Outdoor Education & Day Camp Director will oversee the Blue Sky Outdoor Education program and the Summer Day Camp. This year-round role works closely with the Overnight Camp & Conference Director and the Sr. Director to ensure the programs are educational, safe, and impactful. 

The Blue Sky Outdoor Education program provides day visits for local school and child care groups. The Summer Day Camp consists of ten weeks of summer-time fun, and runs in conjuction with a growing Overnight Camp program. 

Qualifications
  •  Minimum 21 years of age

  • Minimum 3 years of outdoor education/camp experience or equivalent experience working with children

  • Ability to work as a team member & coordinate with other directors in contributing to the goals of the program

  • Supervisory experience, preferably in an outdoor education and camp setting

  • Ability to communicate and provide quality leadership

  • Must have a clean driving record, valid driver's license, and ability to obtain required clearances

Essential Functions
  • Plan, organize, evaluate, & facilitate outdoor education programs according to YMCA & American Camp Association standards

  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, & supervise outdoor education staff

  • Assist with hiring, training, & supervising Day Camp staff

  • Ensure that all programs are fun, educational, challenging, & safe for all participants

  • Plan, organize, & manage Summer Day Camp program, including registration, daily operations, parent communication, CampDoc management, & program quality

  • Assist with weekend & seasonal programming throughout the year, including Summer Family Camp, Labor Day Weekend, and private camp rentals

  • Facilitate Blue Sky Outdoor Education & STEM program for Day Camp, Overnight Camp, & Summer OFF Program

  • Development of new year-round programs

  • Attend camp/hiring fairs & assist with camp promotions and marketing

  • Assist as needed in all areas of camp (cleaning, facilities, rentals, food service, etc.)

  • Assist with creating social media content and operating the Camp Store

Cause-Driven Leadership Competencies

YUSA Leader or Team Leader certification (completed or in progress)

Required Certifications

Can obtain within 90 days of start date-

 

  • Lifeguard certification

  • HSI Instructor certification- First Aid/CPR certification

  • Trained in low & high ropes safety protocols within first three months of hire

  • YUSA Leader or Team Leader certification (completed or in progress)
