Camp Jordan is the resident day camp for the Bangor Region YMCA. Located on Branch Lake in Ellsworth, Maine.
Job Description

Under the guidance of the Director of Youth Development and Camps, the Assistant Director will help plan and execute Camp Jordan's summer programs, including staff hiring and training and ensuring a safe and engaging program for our campers. In the off-season, you’ll help coordinate and supervise activities at The Bangor Region YMCA’s Teen Center. We're looking for someone with the training and experience to support the operation and maintenance of both programs, promoting the mission, purpose, and core values of the Bangor Region YMCA.  This is a full-time, year-round position.  The salary range is $40,000 to $50,000 depending on experience and talent,  The Bangor Region YMCA is located in Bangor, Maine.

Qualifications

1.    Must be a minimum of 21 years old.

2.    Willing to be trained in driving 12- 15 passenger Y vans.

3.    Preferred 3 years’ experience in the summer camping industry.

4.    Confidence in building relationships with children and teens 7- 18 years old.

5.    Confidence in facilitating group activities with a wide range of developmental ages.

6.    Previous experience working with children 7 to 18 years of age, in diverse populations and the ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

7.    Ability to learn and help the Director administer and compile data collection instruments that test the effectiveness and measure success of the Teen Center participants.

8.    Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills that demonstrate effectiveness of communications and interactions with others. As well as the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

9.    Possess a general knowledge and understanding of the YMCA, its goals, and its mission.

10.  Possess a knowledge of various resources for programming ideas and the skills to utilize that information.

11.  The ability to maintain updated certifications of the job such as Child Abuse prevention training, CPR/AED, First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Medication Administration Training, Narcan administration training, Food and Safety Trainings, and any other as directed by your supervisor. 

12.  Lifeguard and interest in Lifeguard Instructor Training preferred. 

Essential Functions

1.   Work with the Director to help oversee all aspects of programming, including supervision of campers/ teens and staff/ volunteers, program promotion, parent relations and communication, scheduling, enrollment, and evaluation.

2.   Help plan and implement new programming, that will entice new participants into programs and expand opportunities for existing participants.

3.   Work with the Director to further develop and expand program outreach, communication with partners and enhance community involvement for both Camp Jordan and The Teen Center.

4.   Work with the director to help recruit, hire, train, supervise, mentor both Camp Jordan and Teen Center staff, volunteers, and interns.

5.   Work with the Director and other YMCA staff to help administer and compile data collection instruments that test the effectiveness and measure success of programs.

6.   Take the lead on social media accounts for both programs, keeping all participants and followers updated on what is happening.

7.   Ensure all program operations are consistent with Y, State licensing and ACA (American Camping Association) procedures including emergency procedures, insurance, accidents, purchasing, personnel, and accounting systems. While also promoting and demonstrate the mission of the organization through actions, which promote the values of the YMCA: Respect, Responsibility, Caring, and Honesty.

8.   Work with the Director to develop the annual operating budgets and objectives for both programs.

9.   Participate accordingly in projects as assigned such as staff trainings and meetings, product groups, and special events. Including supporting all Annual Campaign Events. 

10.  All other duties as assigned.
