Job Description

Under the Supervision of the Child Development Director, the School Age Childcare Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, planning, administration, supervision, delivery and overall operations of the school age childcare program, summer camp, youth enrichment programs, and birthday parties. 

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of various resources for programming ideas and the skills to utilize that information in directing daily activities.
  • Warm and nurturing personality.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
  • This position may be authorized to have access to protected Health Information (PHI) to perform specific job duties. 
  •  Must be able to work in Pre-school classroom, possibly work with children with communicable diseases and disabilities.   
  • Outdoor playground (possibly without handicapped access).  
  • Personal qualifications as required in Part 407: Licensing Standards for Day Care Centers, emotional maturity, willingness to cooperate with the aims of the program, respect for children and adults, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and physical and mental health which does not interfere with responsibilities. 
  •  This position will function as a key member of the total team in developing community relations, lay committees, and long-range planning, as well as the interpretations of YMCA programming to the public. 
  •  Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. 
  •  Must have reliable transportation. 
Essential Functions
  1.  Knowledge of OEC regulations, YMCA of Greater Hartford procedures, rules, regulations, guidelines, and Branch regulations.
  2.  Serve our diverse communities equitably and act with an inclusive, anti-racist lens at all times; promote a brave, respectful culture at the Y.
  3.  Oversee the school age childcare program, summer camp, youth enrichment programs, and birthday parties.
  4.  Leads all aspects of the Child Development programming, including supervision, coordination, promotion, parent relation, school relations, curriculum, scheduling, enrollment, and evaluation.
  5. Lead all aspects of youth enrichment programs and birthday parties including planning, scheduling, promotion, parent relations, and evaluation.
  6.  Maintaining an effective file system for all children and staff.
  7. With assistance from the Child Development Director, develop the annual operating budget and objectives for school age childcare, summer camp, youth enrichment programs, and birthday parties.
  8.  Develop and implement School Age childcare program for all sites and summer camp.
  9. Develop and implement youth enrichment programs and birthday parties for the branch.
  10.  Hires, trains, supervises, mentors, and evaluates all school-age, summer camp, youth enrichment, and birthday party staff.  Supervises 20-30 employees.
  11.  Responsible for ensuring the site follows OEC regulations, process, and standards to obtain and maintain designated school-age & camp site.
  12.  Responsible for purchase, inventory, and delivery of all program supplies.
  13.  Responsible for scheduling staff for school age, summer camp, youth enrichment programs, and birthday parties.
  14.  Ensure all site operations are consistent with YMCA Association procedures, including emergency procedures, insurance, reporting accidents/incidents, purchasing, personnel, and accounting system.
  15.  Assist Child Development Director to develop resources to expand programs and enhance family involvement.
  16.  Recruit and on board volunteers, and recognizes their contribution to Branch objectives.
  17.  Works closely with local school systems, administrators, principals, and teachers to ensure smooth operations of program services, utilization of resources and proper communications.
  18.  Ensures quality supervision and safety of all aspects of school-age programs at designated sites and summer camp through development and implementation of staff and emergency handbooks, pick up and drop off policies, background checks on all staff and use of National YMCA Child Care Guidelines for all programs. Maintains all necessary OEC regulations and licensing requirements in conjunction with Association Guidelines.
  19.  Conduct site visits for school age -including monitoring and evaluating all sites and services.
  20. Conduct program observations within summer camp, youth enrichment programs, and birthday parties including monitoring and evaluating all aspects of programming and delivery of services.
  21.  Participates in projects as assigned as well as staff trainings, department/branch/association meetings, product groups, annual support campaign, family events and special events. 
  22.  Any other duties as assigned.
Required Certifications
  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation or related field. 

OR

  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree with 18 credits in child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation or related field.
