Director of Membership & Community Development

Job Description

Directs all aspects of membership and community development for the branch including recruitment of new members, retention of existing members and supervision of assigned staff.  Leads and manages front desk staff to improve member engagement, oversee Child Watch/Youth Movement, and special community and branch events. 

Qualifications

1.    Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2.    Previous supervisory experience in customer service preferred.
3.    Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
4.    Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Essential Functions

1.    Ensures a level of service and engagement that fosters loyalty among those we serve.

2.    Ensures proper implementation of front desk procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff in a clear, concise way.  Coordinates with the business office as necessary on financial transactions.

3.    Implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members, new corporate memberships and retention of existing members.  Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.

4.    Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

5.    Perform research necessary to develop, plan, and implement communications (education and outreach) campaigns to help drive membership and community knowledge of Y programs, services, and benefits offered.

6.    Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances

7.    Organizes membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA. 

8.    Plan and implement branch member communication calendar. Communicate YMCA information to facility and community members.

9.    Take leadership role in recruitment and solicitation for annual campaign and other assigned fundraising events.

10.  Participates in branch volunteer committees including volunteer recruitment and assisting with completing branch specific strategic goals.

11.  Outreach to local companies and organizations to establish alliances.

12.  Target local community organizations to partner and collaborate with, to help grow the Y’s impact.

13.  Meet and exceed monthly and annual membership sales goals.

14.  Prepare bank deposits and ensure deposits are occurring at least every other day and on the first business day of each month.

15.    Follows up with all terminations and documents results in excel spreadsheet.

16.    Other duties as assigned.

Required Certifications

·        Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, First Aid, and AED.
