The Family Y Association is a two-state multi-branch YMCA and is a recognized leader with the Georgia and South Carolina Alliances.  Augusta Georgia is located in the greatest golf community in the country and is the home of the Augusta National Golf Club, which annually hosts the Masters Golf Tournament. The Club has shown a great history of support for our Family YMCA.

Position Description

The Family YMCA is seeking an innovative, strategic and community minded individual to serve as its next President & CEO. The President & CEO will build trust and extend the breadth and depth of A-YMCA’s reach across our service area. The President & CEO will lead collaborative efforts to grow and maintain productive working relationships in the community that enhances our reputation and furthers our mission and cause.   The Board of Directors is looking for a visionary and strategic leader with solid financial acumen, who can build strong relationships in the communities we serve.

Qualifications

Minimum Criteria for Candidates:

  1. Accredited 4-year college degree.
  2. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
  3. Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
  4. Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
  5. Have the ability to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered or considered for both economy and the effectiveness in broadening our engagement in the communities in which we serve.

Preferred Criteria for Candidates:

  1. YMCA Organizational Leader Certification.
  2. Fiscally sound business management approach.
  3. Strategic planning and Fundraising experience including annual campaigns and the securing of grants.
  4. A proven history of budgetary and fiscal management in excess of $3M or more annually.
Essential Functions

Key Skills and Abilities

Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan: Work effectively with volunteers and key staff to create and develop a strategic roadmap that addresses the needs of this YMCA with defined organizational strategies with experience in implementation. Key competencies: Change Leadership, Communication & Influence, Critical Thinking & Decision Making, Program/Project Management.

Fiscal Management: Use high-level financial analysis to forecast financial trends, growth and stability while consistently leading organization to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs.  Empower and guide staff leaders to lead their departments to successful financial operation.  Develop and implement stewardship strategies. Key competencies: Fiscal Management, Critical Thinking & Decision Making, Developing Self & Others, Philanthropy.

Improve Operating Performance: Engage the board and appropriate staff to develop an annual tactical plan for identifying and achieving key goals and objectives toward operating with safe, relevant and sustainable practices.  Quickly address issues that may arise, forecast future needs and manage and direct the Y’s operations and activities. Key competencies:  Developing Self & Others, Critical Thinking & Decision Making, Innovation.

Position the Y as a Vital Partner for Community Change: Serve as an ambassador and bridgebuilder for the mission, purpose, and vision for the YMCA within the community. Possess the ability to develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, while always upholding the highest standards and values of the Y. Ensure your Y is seen as a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by connecting all people to their potential, purpose, and each other. Key competencies: Communication & Influence, Engaging Community, Collaboration.

Build and Lead Staff: Ensure a talent development system is in place and executed effectively with cultural competence.  Hire, motivate, nurture, retain and hold staff accountable for key objectives.  Work towards recruiting, retaining, developing and promoting staff that represent the diversity of the communities we serve.  Encourage the team by creating a spirit of camaraderie, inclusion, and sense of mission and purpose. Create a learning organization to help staff achieve their highest potential. Key competencies: Developing Self & Others, Inclusion, Emotional Maturity, Change Leadership.

YMCA Facts

The Family Y has been in the CSRA for 165 years and is a multi-branch association located in eight counties and two states.  This association has approximately 650 employees, nine wellness facilities, a Child Development Academy and a 100-acre residential and day camp named Camp Lakeside located on Lake Thurmond.  Our Association has five core values, Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Faith and our three levels of impact include Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.  Our outreach programs are SAW (Safety Around Water) which has served over 35,000 children, APTD (A Place to Dream) Bed Program which has given out almost 2,000 beds for children and Cheryl’s Kitchen, which has served over 3.1 million meals and snacks.

It is located in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) which is comprised of 14 Georgia counties and five South Carolina counties with a total population of more than 700,000 residents.  Major cities within this region include Augusta, Martinez, Evans, GA, and Aiken and North Augusta SC.

Salary Range:  $175,000-$220,000

Benefits:  Retirement contribution, vacation plan, health plan and other benefits per personnel policy included.

Residency Expectation: Living in the YMCA’s service area is required.
