Job Description

Under the guidance and supervision of the Chief Operating Officer and consistent with the Christian Principles and Mission of the YMCA, the Aquatics and Assistant Sports Director is responsible for administering all aquatics programs according to the YMCA Aquatic Program Model and consistent with American Red Cross aquatics safety and certification best practices, management of all aquatics staff members, procurement of all aquatics equipment, and maintenance of all equipment and facilities related to the aquatics programs.  This includes promoting teamwork, setting a positive can-do example for others, alwasy emphasizing safe aquatics operations, planning and executing regular in-service trainings, personnel management, program development and execution, budget development and management, active participation in annual fundraising activities, marketing activities, and soliciting of sponsorships for aquatic related programs. Additional responsibilities include Assistant Sports Director to provide support of Y Without Walls program, as well as youth and adult sports through coordination with the Chief Operating Officer.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and/or two years of aquatics operations supervisory and management experience.
  • Experience in conducting or supervising aquatics and youth sports programs.
  • Experience in preparing and managing an annual budget.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work as a team member and a leader.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people and work cross-functionally with various departments within the organization.

  • Represent the association in Program committee and advisory meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Operating Officer to develop, implement, and support plans for aquatics operations, processes and personnel in order to accommodate the growth objectives for our organization.
  • Ability to creatively develop aquatics-related programs for fitness and water safety for all ages.
  • Ability to creatively develop youth and adult sports-related programs.
  • Lead the overall management of YMCA Swim Team to include but not limited to recruitment, training of coaches, coordination with other regional swim organizations, and coordination with marketing.
  • Motivate and lead a high performance aquatics team of lifeguards, coaches, supervisors, instructors and volunteers.
  • Attract, recruit and retain required members of the aquatics team as dictated by operational requirements; provide mentoring as a cornerstone to the management career development program.
  • Monitor daily pool operations and conditions to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations. Maintain accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance. 
  • Responsible for providing all certifications for CPR/AED and First Aid to the childcare, child watch, fitness, and sports employees. 
  • Manage and schedule instructors for private lessons, semi-private lessons and group lessons.
  • Provide the appropriate training for swim instructors to deliver a quality service of swim lesson instruction through the curriculum taught by the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim Program or YMCA swim programs.
  • Conduct and coordinate proper maintenance of pools, coordinate scheduling of pool facilities, properly secure pool facilities, and ensure close coordination with Property Director for all maintenance and facility-related issues.
  • Be prepared to assist as lifeguard on duty when necessary to assist operational aquatics requirements.
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Certifications
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
  • Certified Pool Operator.
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification.
  • Swim Instructor certification from YMCA, American Red Cross Learn to Swim, or similar program preferred.
