Job Description

Under the supervision of the Early Learning Executive Director, the Food Service Manager prepares nutritious and attractive meals for students while meaning a clean kitchen and observing all health department regulations to create a safe and healthy work environment.

Location: Sarah & Richard Hardy Center for Child Development YMCA, Southbridge MA

Pay: $24.00 per hour

Job Type: Full-time with full benefit package including generous PTO, access to YMCA facilities for all employees, Medical, Dental, Disability, Life, Vision, & Pet Insurance, and ability to participate 403B Retirement Savings Plan. Also, once fully vested, the YMCA will pay into a retirement account for you!

Schedule: 9:00am-5:30pm Monday through Friday

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalent with at least two years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Prior experience working in a school setting, or in a food service position with students strongly preferred. 

Possession of current ServSafe Certification, and Allergen Awareness Training strongly preferred. Other, certificate must be obtained within 30 days of hire. 

Must have excellent interpersonal skills, able to work well with others from diverse backgrounds, problem solving skills

Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision, maintain composure in stressful situations, and be a great team player

Must be able to communicate in English fluently via verbal and written information. Must be able to read and interpret documents, instructions, manuals, write routine reports. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions. 

Must be able to do mathematical skills like adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and be able to compute rate, ratio, percent and volume. 

Must have general knowledge of computer usage and proficient with MS Word, Excel and Outlook

Essential Functions

Knowledge of Federal Guidelines for Child Nutrition Program and CACFP and all applicable district, state, local, and federal laws, rules and regulations related to food handling. 

Knowledge and follow all safety and sanitary rules and regulations related to food handling.

Maintains food service equipment, utensils, storage areas, food preparation and serving areas in a sanitary condition in compliance with current health standards.

Plans and implements menu plans according to daily nutrition requirements; checks prepared foods for flavor, appearance, and temperature according to requirements. 

Inventory, verify supply delivery and accuracy, and rotate into existing stock.

Creates food and supply orders that comply with health standards and submits food and supply orders in a timely manner to ensure on time delivery 

Maintain an accurate system for all meal counts and production records; regularly check and main records of fridge and freezer temperatures in compliance with CACFP regulations. 

Cook and serve students meals with maintaining awareness of students' allergies and food restrictions. 

Report safety, sanitary, fire hazards and other concerns to supervisor promptly. 

Professional represent the school and interact thoughtfully and courteously with parents, students, staff, volunteers and the community. 

Provide training, guidance and supervision to food service staff

Maintain appropriate certifications, and attend in-service trainings and staff meetings.

Other additional duties as assigned.
