Bangor Region YMCA, Maine. Dynamic Group Exercise Manager wanted to manage and motivate a fantastic team of 17 group fitness instructors.
Job Description

We are looking for a seasoned group exercise instructor with management experience, top notch interpersonal skills, phenomenal customer service skills and a firm understanding of the dynamics that go into the make-up of a group exercise program that is more than just "follow me" exercises.

Our group exercise program partner is MOSSA. You can find out more about them here www.mossa.net. The Group Exercise Manager must be willing to get certified in 2-3 MOSSA programs.

More hours can be available if you have your personal training certification.

Qualifications

1.      Bachelor's degree in exercise science/kinesiology preferred

2.      Nationally recognized group exercise certification required (MOSSA preferred)

3.      Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills required

4.      Strong abilities to relate effectively with diverse groups of people

5.      Professional experience in a supervisory/managerial role preferred

6.      Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects required

7.      Proficiency with computer technology and standard business software required

8.      CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required (American Red Cross)

9.      Passage of a background check, with fingerprinting, required 

10.   Completion of onboarding trainings before the start of duties required (Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, Workplace Violence, Sexual Harassment, Active Shooter, and Elder Abuse) 

Essential Functions

1.      Oversees the daily operations of group exercise programming, including planning, scheduling, supervising and evaluating instructors, and tracking and monitoring participation

2.      Recruits, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates group exercise staff team.

3.      Actively leads as a group exercise instructor, regularly working with members and substituting as a class instructor as needed.

4.      Strategizes and organizes activities and special events to ensure that members engage with one another, explore a diversity of class offerings, and expand their repertoire of movement activities

 5.      Maintains attendance tracking and reports

6.      Works effectively with the marketing team to promote classes and special events, and to maintain effective member communication

7.      Executes MOSSA group exercise launches, when new releases are issued

8.      Maintains working knowledge of health, fitness, and wellness science and trends and demonstrates commitment to continued education, to provide current information to members

9.      Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed, and that all group exercise areas are properly maintained and equipped

10.   Represents and promotes the Bangor Region YMCA in the local community to increase visibility, and grow membership and class participation

11.   Contributes to the creation of safe, welcoming environments, in which all individuals feel respected and appreciated

12.   Builds relationships with members and program participants, and nurtures relationships among participants

13.   Demonstrates proper exercise techniques, safety measures, postures, and alignment, during sessions

14.   Checks email daily, and responds to staff and member communications, within 48 hours

15.   Attends and participates in all required staff meetings

16.   Follows YMCA policies and procedures

17.   Responds appropriately to emergency situations
