Job Description

Under the direction of the Vice President of IT, and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Systems Engineer will work with the IS staff to maximize the effectiveness of all computer systems of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte. The Systems Engineer will assist the Vice President of IT in designing, managing, maintaining the YMCA of Greater Charlotte data center infrastructure, both on premise and virtual including all related equipment and vendors.  The Systems Engineer will also assist the Vice President of IT with managing and maintaining the YMCA of Greater Charlotte servers, backup, security, auditing, and applicable policies.

Qualifications
  1. BA/BS degree from an accredited college in computer science, information technology or a related field.
  2. 3+ years’ experience with network backups and data center operations
  3. 3+ years’ experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange, O365, Azure Virtual Desktop, Intune, SQL, Failover Cluster, DNS, DHCP and configuration of virtual environments
  4. Exceptional technical knowledge of PC operating systems including Microsoft- based products – Windows Server 2000+, SQL, Outlook, Exchange, etc.
  5. Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware such as servers, virtual desktop environments, golden images, virtual management platforms, etc. and willingness to make suggestions for improved business processes
  6. 3+ years’ experience with Virtualization and Blade Server Infrastructure
  7. 3+ years’ experience with Microsoft SharePoint, OneDrive, Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Server), IIS, WSUS
  8. 3+ years’ experience with storage both virtual and on premise.
  9. 3+ years’ experience in computer networking and application software including installation and support.
  10. Strong communications skills: the ability to work with and communicate with a variety of system users. Experience communicating technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  11. Proven skill set to accurately assess data and the ability to troubleshoot problems. Willingness to make suggestions for improved business processes.
  12. Enterprise email, database, file share, and web system experience.
  13. Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Certifications/expertise with HP, Dell, Fortinet, VMWare and Microsoft Azure (to include Azure Virtual Desktop).

  5. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  6. Travel as needed.
Essential Functions
  • At the direction of the Vice President of IT, provide management of all YMCA of Greater Charlotte virtual environments, servers and data center.
  • Successfully design, maintain, and secure the virtual systems in accordance with the YMCA’s requirements.
  • Plan, acquire and coordinate installation of in-house and remote hardware and software across the organization’s network.
  • Negotiate with vendors, outsourcers and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Assess, approve and administer all equipment, hardware and software upgrades.
  • Establish best practices and policies for installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting end user workstation hardware, software and peripheral devices for a virtual environment.
  • Provide management of YMCA of Greater Charlotte server systems, and all virtual environments.
  • Provide appropriate solutions for equipment to meet program requirements as defined by YMCA policy.
  • Monitor, develop, backup, and maintain the Windows Server and Exchange email infrastructure, along with Microsoft SQL Server and IIS Server.
  • Maintain and enhance Remote Desktop Connectivity environment as well as the Active Directory environment.
  • Develop and monitor YMCA Computer Disaster Preparedness Plan.
  • Fully support and maintain Microsoft Exchange, O365, SharePoint, IIS, Remote Desktop Services Farm, Azure Virtual Desktop, Microsoft Intune, Entra ID, SQL, and EMC Storage environments. In depth experience with Microsoft Failover Clustering and Load Balancing.  Design and implement all system updates/upgrades.
  • Research and provide innovative and appropriate solutions for equipment to meet program requirements as defined by the Vice President of IT and YMCA policy.
  • Assist the Vice President of IT in evaluating and recommending hardware/applications with written development plans, budgets, and project completion schedules.
  • Maintain hardware and software compatibility standards.
  • Assist IS staff as second-tier support of all server, virtual environments and computer system operations.
  • Maintain system and data security through policy, antivirus/malware protection, and physical/virtual access controls.
  • Monitor, maintain, and develop YMCA communications & computer policies.
