Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Health and Wellbeing Director shall be responsible for developing, implementing and sustaining all Wellness Center programming for members and community participants at the Y.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree required in exercise sports science or a related field
  • Advanced level Personal Training Certification
  • Experience with training clients
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal & coaching skills
  • Supervisory Experience a plus
  • CPR/First Aid Certification within 6 months
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
Essential Functions

1.       Develop and implement cause-driven programming that promotes Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.

2.       Perform excellent service to all members, staff, volunteers and guests.

3.       Build relationships by using names and initiating conversations with all members, staff, volunteers and guests.

4.       Understands, supports and is committed to the YMCA cause and our role in the community as a leader in Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.

5.       Responsible for assuring high standards of program quality and safety in accordance with YMCA safety and risk management policies.

6.       Recruit, hire, train, supervise, develop and schedule all employees within the Health and Wellness department.

7.       Motivate and engage employees to increase retention and understanding of our Cause through regular staff meetings.

8.       Be the Lead Instructor to a minimum of five fitness classes per week.

9.       Lead, direct and/or teach activities pertaining to chronic disease initiatives.

10.    Lead, direct and/or teach activities/classes for which employees cannot be secured.

11.    Work on wellness center floor when needed.

12.    Develop department’s annual budget; monitor and make adjustments as needed.

13.    Play an active role in the annual campaign, recruiting campaigners and serving where needed on planning committees.

14.    Direct the scheduling, maintenance and repair of department facilities and equipment.

15.    Act as a positive role model while implementing YMCA character development and following the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Responsibility, and Respect.

16.    Work weekend duty as scheduled and annual Y special events as needed.

17.    Perform other related duties as assigned by the Branch Executive Director.
