The Boating Specialist reports directly to the Waterfront Director. The incumbent is responsible to lend support to the entire Summer Camp staff and structure. The Boating Specialist is responsible for the safe operations and supervision of the boating programs and activities. The Boating Specialist is responsible for enforcing all state and licensing regulations with camp policy.
Must be at least 19 years of age and a High School graduate. Must be skilled in the teaching of kayaking, canoeing, and other paddle sport equipment. Must have current lifeguard certifications.
- Oversee the instruction of paddle sport lessons during class period and take the lead in all camp Paddle Sport activities during designated periods.
- Provide oversight for the maintenance, inventory, storage, and replacement of paddle sport equipment.
- Support growing a culture of respectful use of boating equipment and maintenance thereof, the skills required for the safe usage and enjoyment of the equipment and the process utilized to build skills and competency in the appropriate staff and students.
- Provide, enforce and maintain the safety standards and regulations of the paddle sport program.
- Safely operate pontoon boat rides for campers and other guests.
- Responsible for implementing the Buddy System.
- Inform the Waterfront Director of any events that may affect the overall well-being of campers and staff.
- Maintain a written log of daily incidents and camp related phone calls.
- Assist with cabin coverage responsibilities when not scheduled for boating responsibilities.
- Follow all camp policies and procedures.
- Any other duties assigned that enhance any/all camp programs and the experiences of all campers and participants at YMCA Storer Camps.
