This position supports the mission of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Human Resources and Business Director plays a key leadership role in both HR strategy and business operations.
Key Responsibilities:
· Bachelor's degree in business, human resources or at least 5-years’ experience in related field.
· Experience with payroll software preferred.
· Professional experience in all aspects of human resources management and staff development and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Knowledge and professional experience in planning and policy, talent management, selection, compensation, benefits, training and staff development, employee relations, and performance management.
· Current knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments, and applicable laws.
· Proficiency in business and human resources related computer applications, which may include talent management systems, time, and attendance systems, etc., spreadsheets, etc.
HR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Creates a vibrant cause-centered culture for staff and volunteers.
2. Handle the recruitment process including sourcing candidates, conducting screenings, and coordinating interviews with prospective employees and director.
3. Draft and issue all employment offers and compensation breakdown while insurance compliance with required documentation, including but not limited to I-9 and background checks.
4. Process employment and volunteer documents in a timely manner – includes the following:
a. Generate and maintain a supply of New Hire Packets, Status Change forms, etc. for staff.
b. Document verification and accuracy.
c. Onboard all new hires into the YMCA and secure all paperwork, documentation, training etc. are completed prior to work beginning.
d. Timeliness and accuracy of all required background checks, mandated onboard training courses, input into the payroll system and new hire meetings.
e. Work in conjunction with the Membership Director to make sure all yearly staff memberships are current and all required policies are signed.
5. Oversee talent management, including staff training, retention, recognition, employee communication and career development.
6. Assist with programs that enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention, including recognition programs.
7. Oversees compensation and benefit programs. Oversees benefit plan communication, enrollment, and administration. Coordinate and lead annual Open Enrollment processes, including communication with employees and benefit carriers.
8. Process unemployment claims, works’ compensation claims and manage/track all employee benefits including – Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, FMLA & Disability Leave, PTO for full and part time staff, etc.
9. Assist CEO, Operations Director, ELC District Director in conflict resolution, reprimands, PIP’s, and terminations as needed with a focus on fairness and consistency. Maintain all paperwork and files in an efficient manner.
10. Generate and analyze HR reports to provide insights and recommendations to leadership on key metrics such as turnover, recruitment and employee engagement.
11. Maintain up-to-date job descriptions for staff.
12. Monitor and update the Employee Handbook as policies change.
13. Process payroll and stay up to date with payroll system (with VP of Finance as backup).
14. Develops and maintains performance management and appraisal programs. Provides assistance to employees and supervisors with questions and workplace problems.
15. Remains current with employment laws and regulations. Maintains an effective program of compliance with laws and regulations related to human resources and manages relationships with compliance agencies and YMCA legal counsel.
16. Oversee HR systems and employee records to ensure accuracy and improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization. Ensures timely and accurate submission of data requested by the CEO and administrative staff, the EEOC, YMCA of the USA, Department of Labor, etc.
17. Provide direction to assigned staff in the performance of their duties, establishing work priorities in achieving strategic and operating plan goals.
18. Ensure all background checks for volunteers are completed and maintain spreadsheet on required training by department.
BUSINESS ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist VP of Finance when needed.
2. Process bi-weekly payroll and payroll adjustments, vacation payouts, historical edits in conjunction with the VP of Finance.
3. Process daily deposit and paperwork.
4. Reconcile monthly bank statements with VP of Finance.
5. Assist with yearly operational budget.
6. Support the CEO, and other departments to ensure effective communication from management.
