Sports and Wellness Director

Job Description

Develops, organizes, and successfully implements high quality, member-focused YMCA sports and wellness programs.  Ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for members, program participants and guests.

Qualifications

·         A Bachelor’s degree, or background in a related field is required.

·         Two (2) or more years in sports and/or wellness programs with the ability to develop staff.

·         Must have current CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications.  Health and wellness certifications are a plus.

·         Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

·         Strong customer service skills.

·         Hands-on experience utilizing data to make informed decisions.

·         Personal commitment to service and hospitality.

Essential Functions

·         Lead branch Sports and Wellness departments by providing direction, leadership, support, and efficiencies for team members through strategic planning, administrative standardization, quality standards, and risk management according to the Legacy YMCA policies and procedures.

·         Ensures that the daily care of members, teens and families is a key priority by showing leadership with staff and volunteers in accordance with the organization’s mission and policies.

·         Recruit, hire, train and develop staff.

·         Prepare and conduct staff training, and meetings.

·         Schedule and supervise field/gym supervisors, sports officials, wellness attendants, personal trainers, and group fitness instructors.  Fill in for absent staff as needed.  Help to secure subs as necessary.

·         Set-up department programs and activities in Daxko in a timely basis to ensure YMCA members can register as needed.

·         Attend all weekly Leadership Team meetings.

·         Responsible for approving bi-weekly payroll for the sports and wellness department.

·         Inspect the wellness areas daily for any hazardous conditions and provide corrective action as needed.  

·         Assist in the development and implementation of the sports and wellness marketing plan and strategies.

·         Requires flexible hours to work evenings and weekends.  Must work during most scheduled practice times and during league play.

·         Accountable to the Chief Executive Officer for execution of policies and procedures of the Association.

·         Assist in the budgeting process. 

·         Any other responsibilities deemed necessary by the Chief Executive Officer.

Ability to make great decisions as they relate to budget and program development.

Required Certifications

CPR/AED, First Aid, within sixty (60) days of employment.  Sports and wellness certifications a plus.
