The Summit Area YMCA (SAY) is seeking a caring, committed, and creative leader to guide our Childcare Team.
The Childcare Director develops, organizes, and implements high-quality YMCA childcare programs at the Berkeley Heights YMCA, a branch of the Summit Area YMCA, ensuring a safe, enriching, and developmentally appropriate environment for all participants. This role oversees the onsite preschool and pre-kindergarten wrap programs during the school year, as well as preschool and specialty camps during the summer months.
Additionally, the Childcare Director is responsible for managing the school-age before and aftercare programs year-round, providing engaging and structured activities that support academic, social, and emotional growth. They will also focus on developing new childcare program ideas that align with the needs of families and children in the community, ensuring innovative and diverse learning opportunities.
This role is integral to the continued growth and expansion of YMCA childcare programs, working to enhance enrollment, improve program quality, and foster strong relationships with children, parents, staff, and community partners. The Childcare Director supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Innovation- Seeks input from key stakeholders (including staff, members, and the community) to develop or improve a program or project. Researches and identifies new trends in the program or service area. Incorporates creative thinking and discussion techniques into meetings and discussions, including brainstorming, mind mapping, sticky notes, and whiteboard visuals. Tries new things and assesses their effectiveness. Values and encourages creative and innovative ideas.
Developing Self & Others: Recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops staff and volunteers for success. Provides staff and volunteers with the support, time, tools, and resources necessary to set, meet or exceed goals. Coaches others for continuous development, including analyzing performance gaps, building development plans, delivering appreciative and developmental feedback, and aligning passions and career goals. Addresses sensitive issues, inappropriate behavior, or performance concerns to help the other person grow. Shares and employs new learning to improve staff and personal performance. Strives to understand and resolve conflicting feedback or ideas from multiple sources.
Communication & Influence- Writes clearly and concisely, using correct grammar, vocabulary, and appropriate tone for the message or audience. Speaks in a clear, articulate manner. Benefits
This Full Time exempt level position, is generally scheduled to work 40 hour each week and may include night and weekend hours depending on program needs. The salary range for this role is $55,000- $60,000 annually and is based on experience.
