Job Description

The YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth impacts lives every day through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Youth Recreation Director plays a vital leadership role at the Northwest YMCA, overseeing all aspects of Day Camp and Youth Sports programming. This position requires strong leadership and organizational skills, a passion for youth development, and an understanding of the services and relationships needed to meet the needs of a growing and diverse community.

This leader will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating high-quality recreational experiences for youth that focus on safety, engagement, and skill-building in a values driven environment. Our programs aim to instill confidence, teamwork, and resilience in children through play, exploration, and meaningful relationships.

We are looking for a dynamic and mission-driven leader who will collaborate with staff, families, and community partners to continue building impactful programs that reflect the heart of the YMCA.

Current Program Scope

Summer Day Camp serves approximately 160 campers daily across three locations, supported by a team of 40+ staff.
Youth Sports program engages over 1000 youth annually, supported by 25+ part time staff, officials and volunteer coaches.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in recreation, education, sports management, or a related field (or currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program).
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of supervisory experience, preferably in youth recreation, day camp, or sports programming.
  • Must be able to meet Texas state requirements for licensed child care center staff (or obtain within 90 days).
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with diverse populations.
  • High level or organization, initiative, and enthusiasm for creating memorable youth experiences.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Directs and leads all aspects of Day Camp and Youth Sports programs, including program planning, staffing, safety, compliance, and delivery of high-quality experiences.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises staff and volunteers across both program areas; ensures proper onboarding, ongoing training, and adherence to YMCA and licensing standards.
  • Collaborates with community partners, school administrators, and parents to grow participation and maintain program quality.
  • Develops engaging and developmentally appropriate schedules, lesson plans, and seasonal curriculums for both camp and sports settings.
  • Creates teams, secures field/facility space, organizes and distributes uniforms and awards, and supports family communication throughout each season.
  • Manages budgets for assigned areas, ensuring fiscal responsibility, proper staffing levels, and resource allocation.
  • Leads parent communication, orientation, and satisfaction efforts; responds to all inquires and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Partners with the association marketing team to promote camp and sports programs and meet participation goals.
  • Maintains compliance with state child care licensing, YMCA of the USA guidelines, and all local safety protocols.
  • Oversees equipment inventory, ordering, maintenance, and general facility support as it pertains to youth programs.
  • Actively participates in association leadership development, fundraising campaigns, and community outreach efforts.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Woth offers a competitive salary and benefits package for selected candidates. 

The yearly salary range for this position is $48,000 - $52,000 and will be commensurate with the selected candidates experience.
