YMCA Camp Bishop is on beautiful Lost Lake in Shelton, WA. Camp includes a recently renovated dining hall and cooks cabin, camper cabins, basketball courts, ropes course, archery field, canoes, paddle boards, water toys (including an obstacle course), volleyball, fire pit, lodge, STEAM Yurt, and of course, a ton of fun!
Assists Camp Cook in providing balanced meals for all campers and staff. Lives and works onsite at camp during sessions. Provide constructive feedback, responsible leadership and guidance for the staff and kitchen volunteers. Serves leader to kitchen volunteer in and out of the kitchen. Represents the YMCA and self in a professional manner of safety and fun.
Minimum 18 years of age.
•Six months or more of related experience preferred
•Preferred: Experience in child Leadership and/or related activities experience.
•Positive attitude and previous experience with children and diverse populations
•Knowledge and skills in meal preparation for 150 people plus.
•Preferred: Knowledge and skills in camper and peer leadership, group and interpersonal dynamics, child behavior and typical camp activities.
•CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, online trainings and Child Abuse prevention training within 14 days of hire date and other required trainings within 14 days.
Promote a positive environment that fosters fun, safety and meaningful experiences for campers.
•Trains kitchen volunteers, according to the direction of the Camp Cook and YMCA guidelines.
•Works under the supervision of the camp cook to prepare meals and snacks, in accordance with Y-USA Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards.
•Assist with cleaning and organization of the kitchen and food supply.
•Skillfully lead volunteers and staff in resolving conflicts.
•Ensures that all meals and snacks are served at the scheduled time, hot and fresh.
•Supervised volunteer kitchen staff in and out of kitchen. May be asked to sleep in cabin with youth volunteers, as needed.
•Cleans and organizes the kitchen, dining hall, and sleeping area each week on Friday, ensuring spaced are ready for weekend rentals.
•Work as a team with camp staff, under the guidance of the summer camp coordinator
•Maintain open communication and proactively work to build strong relationships with Co-leaders & Leadership staff.
•Other duties, as assigned.
First Aid & CRP (current certificate for the duration of the season strongly preferred)
YMCA required online trainings and Child Abuse prevention training within 14 days of hire date and other required trainings as part of staff training
