The YMCA of Pueblo is looking for Summer Staff for our resident camp at YMCA Camp Jackson in Rye, Colorado. Camp Jackson Staff live an active outdoor lifestyle. Working at Summer Camp requires energy, enthusiasm, compassion, and a passion for making the world a better place. Our team of dedicated professionals work closely together in the beautiful San Isabel National Forest to create meaningful outdoor experiences for youth and families.
Camp Jackson is looking for a Teen Programs Director who will enthusiastically represent the YMCA by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job. The Teen Programs Director must embody the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. This position is responsible for leading our team of Teen Counselors and helping develop our next generation of counselors through the Leadership in Training and Counselor in Training Programs. In addition, the Teen Programs Director will be a part of the Summer Leadership Team and will assist in the day-to-day tasks to help camp as a whole. All camp staff may assist in the maintenance and housekeeping of camp facilities. This is a seasonal position.
- At least 21 years of age
- Wilderness First Aid Certification Required
- Lifeguard Certification Required
- Previous overnight camp experience preferred
- High School Diploma required; College degree preferred
- Minimum of three months of FT or equivalent PT satisfactory and verifiable experience with middle school age children and teens. Six months is preferred
- Must have a sincere and genuine interest in working with youth and should relate well to all age levels and backgrounds of people
- Develop and facilitate lessons that teach leadership, counseling skills and camp program skills
- Ability to plan, initiate and lead small and large group activities
- Physically fit and able to hike, walk, stand, bend and lift comfortable over the course of a day
- Mentally and visually alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents
- Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer emergency care effectively
- Previous work with teen leadership programs preferred
- Develop and implement an exciting and safe Teen Leadership program incorporating the YMCA’s values
Staff supervision - Child/Youth development
- Prepare for and actively participate in staff training and staff meetings
- Act as a positive role model for campers and other staff, demonstrating the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in the performance of job duties
- Play an active role in all camp activities
- Will work stay over weekends as assigned
- Evaluate current season and make suggestions for future season
- To perform all other duties as needed or assigned
