The Association Sports Director oversees the development and operations of various sports programs within the Association.
Job Description

The Association Sports Director for the YMCA of Greater Nashua is accountable to the Senior Program Director of Youth Services and oversees the development and operations of various sports programs within the Association.  The Sports Director designs practices, processes, and procedures for strong program and project management.  The YMCA of Greater Nashua operates four facilities:  Nashua YMCA, Merrimack YMCA, Westwood Park, and Camp Sargent (day camp) and sports programming occurs at each branch.  

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Association Sports Director develops, organizes and implements high quality youth sports programs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
  • One to two years related experience (preferred).
Essential Functions
  • Direct oversight of all sports programming and facilities across the association, including instructional classes, recreational leagues, and sports camps, ensuring inclusive access for athletes of all abilities.
  • Recruit, train, coach and lead staff and volunteer instructors and coaches that are committed to the mission of the YMCA and are great role models for youth. Ensure that all staff and volunteers go through regular training as laid out in the YMCA Youth Sports Policy.
  • Together with the Senior Program Director, create and implement the YMCA of Greater Nashua’s brand of sports programming that offers opportunities for athletes at all levels. Ensure that the YMCA is a differentiator in the world of local sports.
  • Expand our core youth sports program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Seek ways of bringing the life changing impact of the Y to kids and families who may not have had that opportunity.
  • Manage and grow pickleball, tennis and racquetball programs for the YMCA of Greater Nashua with a focus on high levels of quality and engagement.
  • Oversee operations and maintenance of all gymnasiums, courts and turf for the association.
  • Manage facility rentals and coordinate space utilization for internal programs, open member play and third party rentals. 
  • Oversee Sports Camps (summer and school vacation) for the association. Develop innovative, high quality programs that meet the needs of all athletes. 
  • Develop and implement curricula for each sport the YMCA offers. Each preschool and youth sport class the YMCA offers should have a weekly training plan for instructors/coaches to follow that keeps athletes moving and motivated throughout the entire class period. Training plans will also be created for each recreational league for coaches to follow.
  • Conduct regular assessments of the quality of programs through surveys, conversations with participants and quality assessment tools.
  •  Communicate effectively with program participants, families, staff, volunteers and partners. This includes information about registration, what to expect at the start of a new program, program highlights and more. Responding to email and voicemail inquiries and questions in a timely manner is critical to the success of this position.
  • Administer league operations, including scheduling, equipment management, and facility preparation.
  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of youth sports program information in a way that ensures the Y meets and exceeds budgeted enrollments. 
  • Build, manage and monitor annual budget for department and make appropriate adjustments to any variances. Work with the Senior Program Director and the Executive Director on any plans to adjust for missed targets.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Assist in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

In partnership with Association leadership, the Westwood Park YMCA and our sports programs will be seen as an advocate for community development and progress. The Sports Director will be known as an ambassador for the mission of the YMCA.   • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific and trainer certifications (list).
