Do you enjoy working with youth in outdoor settings? Do you want to make this the best summer ever for all campers? If so, please consider applying and joining our Camp Team at Camp Foskett under the Tri-Community Branch YMCA!

We are looking for fun, creative, and engaging individuals to join our camp family for the Summer of 2025! Under the supervision of the Camp Director, Camp Counselors are responsible for supervising and leading a group of 10-20 campers through a high-quality day camp experience with their peers while identifying and meeting camper needs, and maintaining YMCA day camp standards and DPH standards.

Camp Counselor accept responsibility for the safety and experience of campers and have the ability to de-escalate conflict situations. Provide thorough communication with peers, Y leadership and camp parents/guardians and deliver the best summer camp experience ever!

Location: Camp Foskett, 189 Daniels Road, Charlton MA

Job Type: Summer Seasonal--June 23rd - August 22nd 2025

Shifts: Mondays - Fridays between 7:45am-4:15pm; occasional evenings (after 4:15 pm) for staff meetings & weekends as necessary for special events 

**Pre-Camp training is required-- all staff training on Saturday, June 7th, 2025. Other training dates TBD.

Pay: $16.00 per hour for new hires, $16.50 per hour for 1 year of experience returning Camp Counselors, and $17.00 per hour for 2+ years of experience returning Camp Counselors. Plus, access to YMCA facilities for all employees, Employee Assistance Program, and Sick Leave.

Qualifications
  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred and at least 16 years old.
  • Previous childcare in an outdoor camp setting preferred for youth ages 5-14 years of age.
  • Emotional maturity is a must.
  • Desire and Ability to work with children indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to teach an activity.
  • Ability to relate to one’s peer group.
  • Good character, integrity, and adaptability
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
  • Strong desire to impact our campers in a caring, positive, and impactful manner to ensure their best summer ever!
  • CPR, First Aid, AED Certification Required
  • This position requires physical stamina. Will be working outdoors. Must be able to tolerate varying temperatures, wind, rain ect. .
Essential Functions
  • Counselors are responsible for the safety, direct supervision, and programming for an assigned group of campers.
  • At all times, display: Enthusiasm, acceptance, sensitivity, patience, and self-control.
  • Plan and implement daily group activities.
  • Provide a safe and healthy environment for all campers.
  • Help plan camp-wide activities.
  • Assist other camping staff when needed.
  • Attend all staff trainings, meetings, and Family Nights.
  • Encourage individual growth through guidance of campers.
  • Maintain equipment and property.
  • Keep camp grounds free from litter.
  • Bring to the attention of the camp director any disciplinary issues or dangerous situations.
  • Abide by all rules, policies, and procedures established by the Montachusett YMCA in the Staff Handbook and elsewhere as directed by YMCA Administration, including internet / cell phone policy.
  • Always represent Camp Lowe in a positive and professional manner.
  • Represent the YMCA and the community both on and off the clock.
  • Set Face-Book, Twitter, Tumbler accounts etc., to Private and refrain from having any internet communication with program participants / staff under the age of 18.

Required Certifications
