Youth & Family Services Program Director – Afterschool Focus supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Director of Y&FS, the Youth & Family Services Program Director is responsible for leading the development and operations with a primary focus on Afterschool (ASCC) programs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, early childhood, recreation, human services or equivalent.
  • Two or more years’ related supervisory experience in school-aged childcare, teen programming, and/or day camping.
  • Knowledge of childcare licensing requirements, YMCA standards and ACA standards for day camps.
  • Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make oral presentations.
  • Skills in staff and volunteer supervision, values education, community program development, and fundraising.
  • Must be able to drive bus.
  • Must be at least 20 years old to drive a bus.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Incumbents must complete mandatory training in New Staff Orientation, BBP/Child Abuse Prevention and CPR/1st Aid/AED training within 30 days of employment.
Essential Functions
  • Report directly to the branch Director of Y&FS on behalf of the Y&FS department.
  • Manages, directs, and coordinates all aspects of the Afterschool program for branch.
  • During the school Year this position is responsible for operations of the Afterschool program, planning, hiring, staff management, and daily implementation.
  • During the summer, the position assists with camp when needed, prepping for the upcoming Afterschool year with recruitment of staff and new families.
  • Develop and implement high-quality childcare curricula and activities for students of various ages and developmental stages.
  • Develop and maintain a positive childcare leadership team with Director of Y&FS and Assistant Y&FS Director, working toward the same goals and with a vision of offering high-quality, high-value programs for members and participants.
  • Directly recruit, train, supervise, and develop part-time staff and volunteers in partnership with the Human Resource department and the Association Director of Y & FS Programs and Quality.
  • Organize and schedule program registrations for Afterschool.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to childcare.
  • Ensures that program standards are met, and safety procedures followed.
  • Secure, monitor, and oversee transportation of participants on field trips.
  • Conduct and report staff evaluations annually, as well as on-going, non-formal evaluations of staff to ensure highest quality of staff are in place and adding value to childcare programs.
  • Communicate and partner with the Association Director of Y&FS Programs and Quality as a resource for program and staffing support, curriculum development, staff development and training efforts, program growth initiatives, and staff/participant engagement and retention.
  • Coordinate use of branch facilities for daily activities.
  • Secure facilities and admission for field trips and events.
  • Purchase and maintain materials and supply for ASCC Program, including snacks.
  • Develop and monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Act as the Childcare Cabinet representative for your branch
  • Promote and incorporate the YMCA four core values and character development model into all program activities.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with other community organizations.
  • Responsible for promotion of all childcare programs, in conjunction with branch marketing and promotion plans.
  • Develop and implement recruiting plans for YMCA Childcare programs.
  • Establish new program activities and expand program within the community in accordance with the Association and branch strategic plans.

  • Follow employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers.
  • Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.
  • Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Communicate to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their consumer from abuse.
  • Report essential abuse risk management information to the board of directors.
